  • There are lot of new phones released this year. However very few of them are worth purchasing for the specification being offered. In terms of performance and reviews very few phones turned out to be good.

    1. Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700F Galaxy J7 seems to be getting popular among people who want budget phone. Phone has some impressive features such as S Boke Mode, Call filtering and Ultra data saving. The price is also revised last month to 14250 Rs.

    2. Redmi Note 3: This phone has two models priced at 9999 Rs and 11999 Rs. Slightly changed in storage and RAM is the difference in between the models. The phone has better battery and camera. It is getting popular among those with small budget.

    3. Huawei Honor 5X: A good phone with decent specification at the price of 12999 Rs. It also has good camera and better device design. The hardware wise the specifications are good too.

    4. Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5 ZE550KL: In terms of design this model didn't attracted much crowd. However the specifications are solid. Also ASUS has some really good quality camera lens. It is priced at 12799 Rs.

    5. OnePlus X Oxygen OS has created followers of it's own. This model with 16GB storage is priced at 14500 Rs. Though borderline outside your budget but the specifications are good. Also performance wise though it may not be the best choice but for casual usage, the UI bloatware should not be an issue.

These are some of the phones that were worth checking out this year. You may find Yu Yureka, Lenovo K4 Note, CoolPad Note 3 etc in the market too. However, depending on experience with the manufacturers and reviews in the market, I'd say the above 5 are the most talked about.

  • A few good options for you could be the ones outlined below. However, please note that the price band mentioned by you is quite overcrowded. It may not be possible to come up with exhaustive list as there are many devices with unique features.

    1. Xiaomi RedMi Note 3

The RedMi Note 3 has great performance features. I can even go to the extent of stating that it has standards equivalent to the phones costing Rs. 25000. The best part would be the 4000 mAh battery capacity. You should get more than 12 hours of back up even with heavy usage. The 5.5 inch full HD display, 16 MP camera, 2 GB RAM and Android 5.1 are some of the features that the phone boasts of. The finger print scanner claims to unlock the device in just under 0.3 seconds.

    2. LeEco 1S

The phone is priced at around Rs. 10000 on Flipkart. It is one of the most powerful devices under Rs. 15000. Made of all metal unibody construction, you will have a 5.5 inch full HD display. The screen is reported to be scratch resistant. Powered by MediaTek Helio X10 processor. 32 GB internal storage coupled with 3 GB RAM ensures smoother performance. The 13 MP camera has almost all in demand features. Only feature that can be little annoying is the battery capacity which stands just below par in comparison to its other features. The 3000 mAh battery falls little short of expectations.

    3. Lenovo Vibe K4 Note

The 3 GB RAM ensures better multitasking. It has 16 GB internal storage that can be expanded by using a microSD card. Launched in January, 2016 - it has 5.5 inch full HD display. The phone is powered by MediaTek processor. Though it has been looked down upon when compared to Snapdragon processors, Lenovo has made sure that it does perform well. You have 13 MP rear and 5 MP front snappers. The DOLBY ATMOS audio technology ensures enhanced audio experience. The smartphone is powered by a 3300 mAh battery.

    4. Meizu M2 Note

Though it has been launched almost six months ago, it still commands respect. It does not have best of the performance or the best camera performance. But, I can safely say that it does not compromise on either of the features. The device comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD screen. Meizu M2 Note is powered by MediaTek processor coupled with 2 GB RAM. You get 16 GB internal storage , but sadly enough you do not get any expandable storage option. The phone has 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front cameras. The battery capacity reads 3100 mAh.

    5. Lenovo Zuk Z1

The device comes as an all rounder in the sub 15000 price band. The best part with the device is the 64 GB internal storage capacity. The SnapDragon 801 processor coupled with 3 GB RAM makes Zuk Z1 a performance powerhouse. Even in the battery derpartment, the device excels with its 4100 mah capacity. Zuk Z1 has 13 MP rear and 8 MP front cameras. The Android 5.1 based Cyanogen MOD makes it the most customisable device ever.

    6. Xiaomi Mi4i

The plastic body may make it a downside, but the device is definitely a deal. The 5 inch IPS LCD display provides you a 441 ppi pixel density. SnapDragon 615 processor coupled with 2 GB RAM ensures that the phone works smoothly across all your tasks. The 3120 mAh battery may be deterrent, but can give a back up of around two days with moderate usage.

Well, those were a few options for you to buy. However, with the ever-changing world of smartphones in that price range - it would be advisable to keep an eye on the new launches.

  • Here is the list of smartphones which I feel as the best to buy in 2016. As am not a big fan of Lenovo, Micromax, Samsung etc ( as those devices fail in long term usage.) Suggesting you the devices which can withstand without a degrade in its performance for a year or two.

    1. Motorola Moto G4 Plus

Here is the latest champ which could get your work done in a snap. With Dual Sim, 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi powered by Octa Core, 1.5 GHz Processor with 3 GB RAM, 32 GB inbuilt memory with a monstrous 3000 mAH Battery of 5.5 inches, 1080 x 1920 px display. With 16 MP Camera with flash which will be with Android Marshmallow is a cool one which is priced Rs 14,999.

The only drawback is its heating issues which are reported by some users. Just make it sure and select it.

    2. Redmi Note 3

Yes, the note with 5.5 inches, 1080p display with Dual Sim, 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi
powered by Hexa Core, 1.8 GHz Processor and with 3 GB RAM, 32 GB inbuilt memory this should serve the purpose. Which is powered by humongous 4050 mAH Battery and with 16 MP Camera with flash, it looks like the beast out there and when you get it for Rs 11,998 then it surely the best one out of all.

    3. Xiaomi Mi 4

With 3G, Wi-Fi powered by Quad Core, 2.5 GHz Processor with 3 GB RAM, 16 GB inbuilt memory with a 3080 mAH Battery of 5 inches, 1080 x 1920 px display is all packed to deliver optimum performance. With 13 MP Camera with flash is a good to go one and it is priced Rs. 14,490 which is pretty good deal.

    4. Moto X ( Second Gen )

Yes, this is the old Smartphone which was released long back but the reason for suggesting is its stability and built in performance. With a price of Rs 14,999 with features like 3G, Wi-Fi, NFC powered by Quad Core, 2.5 GHz Processor and with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB inbuilt memory with 2300 mAH Battery. With 5.2 inches,1080 p display and 13 MP Camera should serve its purpose.

This one is suggested because of its price cut from Rs 33,999.

    5. Xiaomi Mi 4i

Again the xiaomi product with features almost the same as Mi 4. Its is priced Rs 11,999 with features Dual Sim, 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi powered by Octa Core, 1.7 GHz Processor with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB inbuilt and 3120 mAH Battery.

I have listed only Xiaomi and Motorola products because these two are in the hunt producing better smartphones and with less vulnerability and as I said am not a big fan of those other brands because of disastrous performance of their smartphones.
