Coolpad Max smartphone features and price

Coolpad Max from Coolpad made their India Launch at May 30 in Rose Gold and Royal Gold colours. The new phone is sporting a fingerprint sensor on its rear panel. The phone has a 5.5-inch full-HD display protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Coming with a 4GB RAM, it has got 64GB inbuilt storage variants. Apart from these you get these following features.

Display:
This touchscreen phone has a standard 5.5 inch display with a Resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and 401 Pixels per inch (PPI).

Dimension
The phone size is 152.00 x 75.70 x 6.90 cm with a sleek and smart look weighing about 170 gm.

The Processor
With a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 Processor , the phone has a RAM of 4GB, Internal storage of 64GB which can be Expanded through microSD up to 64 GB.

Camera
The Front Camera in Coolpad Max is of 5-megapixel and the Rear Camera is of 13-megapixel with Flash.

The OS
The phone opeerates on Android 5.1 with Cool UI of 8.0 version.

The Battery
The capacity of the battery is 2800mAh.

Connectivity.
The Coolpad Max is geared with all the standard connectivity features like Wi-Fi of 802.11 a/ b/ g/ n/ ac, GPS, Bluetooth of v 4.00.It doesn't have NFC or Infrared but has USB OTG.

Sensors
The phone comes with Compass or Magnetometer sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Gyroscope and Finger print. But it doesn't have Barometer or Temperature sensor.

Coolpad Max comes with a dual phone system. The unique concept lets you have two phones - two entirely different phones - in one unit. Here we go with the spec sheet -

Design and Build
The build and the looks of the phone resemble the iPhone. You can opt for the phone in Royal Gold, Rose Gold and Neutral Grey color options. However, the neutral grey variant has not been made available in India as yet. The front has bevelled edges. The phone comes with a hybrid slot for microSD card - which means you can either use a microSD card or a second SIM. The choice should be yours.
Rear side is of matte finish. The finger print scanner sits in a recess just below the camera. The phone offers you a good grip. You may feel it is a bit heavy at 170 grams. Physical dimensions read 152.00 x 75.70 x 6.90 mm. Coolpad Max really looks quite premium. Even the presentation of the phone with the contents inside makes it a great one at that.

Display
Coolpad Max comes with a 5.5 inch with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. It has the Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The pixel density is impressive at 401 ppi. There are no physical navigation buttons. Onscreen navigation buttons are quite handy.

Hardware and Performance
The Coolpad Max is powered by an Octacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor at 1.5 GHz. The phone has a 4GB of RAM which should be great by today's standards. You get 64 GB of internal storage. If you want expandable memory, you will need to sacrifice the dual SIM functionality.
The phone has been reported to be quite fast. It has been observed to heat up a little when used for a prolonged time. The finger print scanner works quite accurately but falters sometimes.

Camera
On the rear, you have a 13 MP camera. It comes with dual tone flash and auto focus. The front camera is of 5 MP resolution. Both the cameras are capable of HD video recording at 1080p.
Cameras work just great. Locking into focus seems to be a little issue. Also, the videos come quite clear.

Software
Coolpad Max runs on Cool UI. The amount of customisation is a little heavy. A few text labels are confusing more so because of the issues with translation from Chinese. There are a few pre-installed apps like Cool Manager and Cool Service. The split screen feature is run on any app unlike only on some specific apps on competitor devices.
The most interesting feature in the Private Space wherein you can get two phones in one. You can have a separate camera and other apps. Thus, you can have two installations of Whatsapp, Facebook or another app. You can even have two separate Google accounts.

Connectivity and other features
The phone supports LTE on both the SIM cards - that is if you have chosen to use it as a dual SIM device. The other connectivity features include WiFi, BlueTooth (version 4.0), GPS and USB. Another much in demand feature USB OTG is available on Max. The device lacks NFC and InfraRed.
The battery capacity reads 2800 mAh. It does support QuickCharge 3.0. Just under five minutes of charging will let you get three hours of talk time. Under the actual usage, the battery has been stated to give you around 8.5 hours of usage in a video loop test.

Reports suggest that the phone, though priced in the 25K segment, does not fit properly in the price band for the obvious reasons of performance issues experienced by some users. Coolpad Note 3 seems to be a better option than going for this expensive device. Only point that raises hopes is the dual phone functionality which is a new concept in the smartphone arena.

Coolpad Max is a premium design that looks similar to Apple's iPhone. Though custom Android is completely different optimized Android 5.1 ROM.

Network:The device is DUAL SIM and supports two nano SIM. It supports the following network - 3G, 4G, 2G and WCDMA. Apart from that connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM. On the sensor front it also includes Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.

Battery:There are not many tests conducted on the battery for with or without network enabled performance. However the battery of the device is 2800mAh non removable battery. So you can expect the device has lock-in for battery and would be high performance for it's specific life-cycle.

Hardware: The device has 1.5GHz octa-core napdragon 617 processor. Also the device has 4GB of RAM internally. And the offers the disk space of about 64GB. The external SD card support is upto 64GB. The cover for the device is available in Royal Gold and Rose Gold.

Display: Coolpad Max has 5.50-inch touchscreen display and the resolution of the device is 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels. You may find that the quality of display is good. And it makes use of IPS display.

Camera: The device has 13-megapixel primary camera and 5MPX secondary camera. The quality of images are good for primary however comparison tests are yet to be released for the device.

The phone is priced R 24999. It doesn't offer any specific hardware improvement or camera option as of now. So the quality for this price is debatable. If you compare the phone with Mi5, then you may find Mi5 more attractive and with assured quality and performance compared to this model.
