The models released under Samsung Galaxy A (which as A5, A3 and A7) are basically specification upgrades. You can't compare them with the Samsung Galaxy Edge as they don't support VR Gear and some other improvements of the Galaxy Edge.

  • First of all, the Samsung Galaxy A ( 2016) is a collective name that is used to indicate a series of smartphones released by Samsung. According to Samsung, it has listened to.the feedback by the users and made several.several . improvements in its A series devices. The smartphones that have been made available under the new A series include Galaxy A3, A5 and A7. All the three devices have received a big boost in terms of the looks. They are now quite premium with a metal and glass construction. Also several improvements have been made for the camera. Here we go with details of the devices -

    Galaxy A3
The smartphone comes with a 4.7 inch display. The display resolution reads HD at 1280x720 pixels. The super AMOLED screen has been the staple feature on Samsung devices.
The phone is powered by a quad core processor at 1.5 GHz. The 1.5 GB RAM could be a little inferior with the current trend. Galaxy A3 comes with 16 GB internal memory that can be expanded by another 128 GB.
    THE
The device runs on Android Lollipop 5.1. It offers you a dual SIM compatibility. It doe have almost all regular connectivity features such as WiFi, Bluetooth version 4.1, NFC, GPS and mkcroUSB. You have a 2300 mAh battery that performs quite satisfactorily.
The smartphone has a 13 MP rear and a 5 MP front camera. The optical image stabilisation has been provided and the aperture is now a larger f/1.9 in size.

    Galaxy A5
Thus is slightly improved version of the A3. It carries forward all the features on the Galaxy A3. Display remains similar with technology, but the size is upped to 5.2 inch. The resolution too gets a hike to full HD at 1920x1080.
The smartphone is powered by a Octa-Core 1.6 GHZ processor. The onboard RAM reads 2 GB. The internal .emery remains same at 16 GB and it can be expanded to another 128 GB. Camera and software properties remain same as on Galaxy A3. The device comes with a 2900 mAh battery. The battery does support fast charging.
In terms of connectivity, A5 has support for Samsung Pay and Finger print scanner. All other features remain similar to Galaxy A3.

    Galaxy A7
This is the device is series with high specification values. It is powered by the same Octa-Core processor as on Galaxy A5. The clock speed reads 1.6 GHz. You have a 5.5 inch display at full HD resolution. The resolution reads 1920x1080. The phone comes with an impressive 3 GB RAM. The internal memory of the smartphone reads 16 GB. You can expand it by another 128 GB.
Camera, software and other features on the device stay similar to those on Galaxy A5. You have a 13 MP and a 5 MP camera setup. The device does have a fingerprint scanner and it supports Samsung Pay.
The Galaxy A7 is powered by a 3300 mAh battery capacity. It does have support for dual SIM functionality. The battery supports fast charging.

The Galaxy A series has been about a performance tweak. It has the the improved camera setup that has the improvements in terms of Optical Image Stabilisation and the larger f/1.9 aperture. Also the looks have been altered making a premium looking series.
As for your query on comparing them to Galaxy S7 and S 7 Edge, I do not think you can have a logical.comparison. The A series is a specification improvement while the S7 and S7 Edge are the flagships. Both the new flagships have their own set of advantages and as such they can't be compared to the A series which a mid range series.
As for the India release of the A series, Samsung has released only Galaxy A5 and A7 in India. The A3 has either been left off or is likely to come up at a later date. The Galaxy A5 is priced at Rs. 29400 and the Galaxy A7 is priced at Rs. 33400. You may check the detailed specification on the official Samsung India website. You may also buy the official Samsung India e-store.
