Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has the following feature sets -
DesignDeparting from the usual tradition of launching some new features with the Note series, the Note 5 borrows the design elements from Galaxy S6. Featuring the same all metal and glass unibody design, the device uses the typical Samsung styling. The physical dimensions read 134x76x7.6 mm and the weight of the device is 171 grams. It is slimmer than the Note 4. Physical home button is flanked on either side by the capacitive touch buttons. Finger print scanner sits embedded in the home button. Bottom of the device is a place for S-Pen holster and microUSB port. The battery is non removable. You can buy the phone in two color variants of Black Sapphire and Pearl White.
DisplayThe device sports a 5.7 inch super AMOLED screen at a qHD resolution. The impressive 2560x1440 resolution has an impressive pixel density of 518 ppi. Samsung is an expert in offering word class displays. Colors are sharp and vibrant. Blacks are rendered deeply. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
HardwareThis is another departure from usual practice of using Qualcomm processors. Note 5 is powered by in-house Exynoss 7420 octacore processor with a powerful clock speed of 2.1 GHz. Coupled with 4 GB RAM, it ensures effective multitasking. Presence of LPDDR4 RAM results in efficient management of resources. Graphics are handled by Mali-T 760 MP8 GPU. The phone is available in two memory variants of 32 and 64 GB. If you are one of those who wish to add up the memory, you are in for a disappointment. The phone has no option for expandable memory. Finger print scanner as said above has no touch type implementation. You get the S-Pen and heart rate monitor making it a complete good deal.
CameraThe camera again is a pick from Galaxy S6. The 16 MP reason camera with dual LED flash has a f/1.9 aperture. Wider aperture makes it provide better picture quality. It has optical image stabilisation which aids in getting sharper snaps. There are additional features like
Video collage mode. You can broadcast your videos live to YouTube using the
Live Broadcast feature. The camera also supports RAW images which is a boon for professional broadcasters. On the front, you get a 5 MP snapper. It comes with certain good modes like
Beauty mode. The camera is capable of 4K video recording. You can view the videos shot on your 4K TV.
SoftwareNote 5 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 out of the box. You get the usual customisation by TouchWiz UI. However, the skin is quite leaner of late. Samsung has given a heed to customer feedback and got rid of most of the unwanted features from the UI. There are no much bloatware.
S-PenThe S-Pen is improved from the previous version. You now have to push the pen inside the holster to pull it out just like the retractable pens do.
Air command has now been given a face lift.
Scroll feature lets you capture the whole document instead of taking multiple screen shots. This is helpful when saving larger documents. You can annotate the PDF documents as well.
BatteryBattery capacity has been lowered in comparison to Note 4. Note 5 is powered by 3000 mAh battery compared to the 3200 mAh on Note 4. The battery is non removable. Samsung seems to have taken up some measures to limit the battery consumption. The power saving modes should help you get enough juice.
PriceSamsung has announced the price of the device over the last couple of days. The 32 GB variant will be available at Rs. 53900. You can buy the 64 GB version for Rs. 59900. Sale of devices will commence from September 20.
