  • How to remove or uninstall Google Chrome

Want to remove or uninstall Google Chrome browser from your PC? Read this thread for complete step by step instructions for the same.

I am experiencing very slow speed of Chrome for Google services pages like Gmail, YouTube, AdSense. So, I have decided to uninstall it.

When I try to uninstall, it gives error message, 'Close all the Google Chrome windows and try again". I do this task while keeping Google Chrome closed but still getting the error. I do not know the reason.

  • Google Chrome is a browser which falls under the category of Programs or Applications.
So removing or uninstalling Google Chrome would be the same like removing or uninstalling any other program.
You have to follow these simple steps:
    1. Go to the Start button
    2. Select the Control Panel
    3. From there find out Add/Remove Programs
    4. A list of programs will appear, from where you have to select Google Chrome.
    5. Once you select the option of upgrading or removing/uninstalling option will be visible.
    6. Click on Uninstall/Remove

The rest will be done automatically. To ensure that it has been done, you have to restart your computer. That's it.

  • Make sure all instances of Google Chrome are closed on your PC. Even if you've closed an open Chrome window, sometimes the program may continue to run in the background. make sure you end that program also.

    To do so:
    1. Press Ctrl + Shift +Escape together on your PC.
    2. This will open up the Windows Task Manager
    3. Go to the Processes tab.
    4. Look for any instance of Google Chrome running.
    5. If found, select it and hit End Process.
    6. Re-do if more than one.
    7. Try uninstalling now.

  • Hi Paresh,

Google Chrome is a good browser, with high-speed when treated smoothly. Since, you have trying to uninstall it, let me help you.

While reading your question, I do get that you are a computer user and know how to install a certain program from your operating system like Windows. The error message in your question means that some of the application of google chrome is working in the background of your computer. It may be the browser itself, or any addon, or related plugin, update service etc..

So, to end all of this processes just follow the below instructions (I assume you're using Windows 7):
    • Goto Task Manager by Right clicking the task bar below the desktop where the start button placed, and selecting the option "Start Task Manager".

    • A task manager window will appear on your screen, now click on "Show all processes from all users" button at the left bottom of the task manager.

    • Now you're in the task manager where the various tasks on your PC screened.

    • Click on the processes titled "Chrome.exe" and click "End process" to end the process.

    • Do the same for other "Chrome.exe" process if any more exists {Please do not end any other processes}.

    • Now close the Task Manager and Goto Control Panel and Uninstall the Google Chrome Browser.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Harish

  • Google chrome does not have uninstall option in the startup menu. So one has to go to the control panel to uninstall the chrome. Go to control panel and Find add remove software option. Click on Google chrome link and then select Uninstall link from the top of the add remove programs option. This starts the uninstall process. It takes some time to remove the chrome from computer. Once uninstall is finished successfully, it can remove the browser instance from context menu too.

  • If you wants to remove or uninstall Google Chrome, first make sure that it is not running in the background of your desktop. You can do so by opening the task manager by holding Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys from the keyboard for a few seconds. Then you will see a task manager where you need to look for the Google Chrome application in it. If its running then right click on it and then click on End Task. This will end the whole process tree of Chrome. And if its not running then its fine to head over to the next step. Now just go to Control Panel and then look for Add or remove items. Click over it and look for Google Chrome, if its there, right click on it and then click to uninstall it. If its not there then it means that it has already been removed or uninstalled from your OS.

I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.

  • Apart from what has been stated above, I would advice you to follow the other instructions because slower speed or crashing of Chrome can be caused by a multitude of reasons. Follow the below mentioned steps -

    1. Make sure your PC has no mal ware. Such mal ware can cause issues in any browser - not only Chrome.

    2. Some bad extensions might be causing the issue. Check for the extensions by going to Settings (gear icon) - > tools - > extensions . This may vary depending on your version of Chrome. Disable all the extensions. Now close Chrome - then reopen it and check if your problem is solved. If not you may need to uninstall Chrome.

    3. If all those checks fail, your decision to uninstall Chrome is just fine . Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Task Manager. Look out for all instances of Chrome.exe and If you find one right clock on it and click on End Processes . Repeat the same procedure for all instances of Chrome.exe . Now uninstall Chrome as usual.
You should be able to uninstall Chrome.

  • Follow these steps :

    1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open Task Manager.

    2. Goto "Process" tab.

    3. Select the process whose name is Chrome.exe and click on "End Process" button. If you see more processes with the same name, then close them one by one.

    4. Now goto Start -> Control Panel.

    5. Open Add/Remove Programs.

    6. There, you will see Google Chrome along with other installed programs.

    7. Click on the Uninstall/Remove to uninstall Google Chrome from your PC.
