    Facing problem with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on HP Z420 Workstation

    Are you facing any problems with Ubuntu OS installation? Learn how to install Ubuntu on your HP workstation.

    I recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my new HP workstation (Z420 Workstation) which has 128 SSD Hard disk and 16 GB of RAM. Workstation is very well configured with latest features. I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to use gcc and g++ compilers for C programming use. My C program code runs for more than 24 hours. The workstation is located in AC room.

    I wonder why usage of PC after 24 hours or more than that, freezes/hanged it? (Look at the image attached herewith - The images are results of freezing or hang). It immediately stops responding and I have to force fully shut down it by use of power button on CPU cabinet.

    What could be the issue?

  • It seems it is an error in unity services. Unity is the Ubuntu user interface. There are lot of bugs in unity panel and its services. Possibly it will be the issue. To overcome the issue, you need to update all unity services. Switch to Root user and type the below commands in the Terminal window.

    aptitude upgrade -y; aptitude dist-upgrade -y; aptitude install ubuntu-desktop -y;

    This will update your unity services which will possibly remove the bugs. You can use aptitude or apt-get both gives the same result.

  • I agree with you Mobile Boy, but the real problem is freezing of the PC. The image is just a moment before freezing. Are you sure, what you said will remove the bugs and solve the problem?
