Should I choose a website builder plan or separate domain and unlimited hosting plan from GoDaddy?

Are you about to start a new blog/website? Unable to decide between website builder or hosting plan? Read on to know what to select, either website builder plan or a hosting plan.

GoDaddy is currently offering good discounts for domains, hosting service and comprehensive website builder product (that includes free domain and hosting for 1 website). For GoDaddy's website builder product, one need not know any web development skills and can simply develop a new website using drag and drop tools. Whereas if I buy a separate domain and hosting plan for unlimited websites, then, I need to know the web development languages like PHP,, etc. and related skills.

Kindly advise me which is a better thing to do for a novice.

  • I think you can do both the plan per your requirement, convenient, knowledge to handling it. In case, if you have good coding knowledge you can code/develop/design it then you can buy separate domain and do design as you like to save money on this except web-hosting plan.

If you buy website builder then you have to spend extra money on this and this is good only for those who doesn't know programming. They have to spend money to do their own business as they like. Here, they have to pay for domain purchase, website builder and the rest.

  • Godaddy is better for domain registrations and I think its Website Builder plan is for static websites. There are hundreds of pre designed templates that you can use to build your website. Also, you can start from scratch and design a website by using drag and drop tools. Godaddy's Website builder plan is better for small and medium scale companies and also for those who want to make a online portal.

But if you want to make a website where you will be updating everyday, Website builder plan is of no use. Yes, a few months back I tried Website Builder plan and it became a tough task for me to make a website, particularly when I wanted to make a site with regular updates ( for example a tech/ fashion blog).

If you buy a Hosting plan you can install any CMS (content management System) and I don't know much about what more you can do with that plan. But I can make it sure that GoDaddy lacks a control panel.

If you want to make a blog (it's better) like Techchrunch, ShoutMeLoud, labnol etc, I advice you to use WordPress as your CMS. You don't need any coding skills to design a blog or website using CMS.

You can also host your WordPress Blog on GoDaddy, but it doesn't benefit you like Hostgator, Dreamhost and BlueHost that are custom made for blogs.

To host a WordPress blog you need to spend minimum $60 including and that includes Domain and free theme. But if you want to use a premium theme it costs you even more.
