    What are the programming languages used to develop OS?


    Are you curious to know what programming languages have been used in several types of OS we are using in our devices? Follow this thread and read answers by experts to know the list of programming languages used in the development of operating systems.

    I was just wondering and wanted to know all the possible programming languages which have been used so far to develop several types of OS that are being used. Can you experts, give the list of all the programming languages which have been used so for to build an OS? What are the programming languages used to develop OS?

    There are many operating system released so far. Many OS are propriety and are used only in small scale. Below are some popular OS and their programmed language.
    Android - C, C++, Java
    Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) - C
    iOS - C, C++, Objective-C
    Linux - Many programming language used, especially C.
    Microsoft Windows - C, C++ and Assembly language
    Unix - C and Assembly language

    So, most of the OS use C programming language and assembly language. Most of them create an operating system using POSIX API. No other programming language is used to create a OS. The C programming language is easy and satisfy all the needs for creating an OS. I don't know much more than this. I got this information from a C workshop.
