Many new low-cost smartphones, with quadcore processors and 5 inch display screen have been launched in the smartphone markets recenty. Many Indian manufacturers like Micromax, Karbonn, Lava and Xolo have started competing with global players like Apple, Samsung, BlackBerry, and others. As soon as some new smartphone is launched into the smartphone market, we are tempted to make a comparison with some other smartphones which already exist in the market and are doing good business at the same price. At times, the comparison is also made with some other smartphone launched by some other manufacturer in the same category. So is the case with the launch of new smartphone Karbonn Titanium S5 at a price of Rs 11,990 on March 19, 2013. In order to guide the consumers longing for a smartphone at the same price, the newly launched smartphone has been compared here with Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 which is being sold at Rs 11,699 at ebay.in against its announced market price of Rs 15,050. In order to compare the two smartphones and understand their functionality better, we shall keep their features and specifications side by side and then review each of them so that we can have a final word about them and eventually, the buyer can take a better decision as to which smartphone to buy.
Network, connectivity, display, dimensions, SIM and sound features
On comparing the network and connectivity features of Karbonn Titanium S5 and Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802, we do not find much difference except that Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos is supported by EDGE. Both the phones have 2G and 3G networking and GPRS connectivity. Both Karbonn Titanium S5 and Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled and have USB 2.0 ports for data transfer. Both the smartphones are supported with dual SIM. One SIM in Karbonn Titanium S5 supports 3G while the other supports 2G network. There is a mini-SIM in Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos and also a dual standby SIM. Karbonn Titanium S5 has a display size of 5 inches compared to only 3.5 inches of Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos. The screen resolution of the former is 540 x 960 pixels which it is only 320 x 480 pixels in the later. Karbonn Titanium S5 has QHD multi touchscreen display while it is TFT capacitive multi touchscreen with 256 colors in Galaxy Ace Duos. Karbonn Titanium S5 is slimmer with its dimensions 143 x 72.4 x 8.95 mm, yet its size is much larger than Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos which measures 112.7 x 61.5 x 11.5 mm. The sound features are almost the same in both the phones with a slight advantage to Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802. Comparison of memory, camera features and price of the two smartphones
Both Karbonn Titanium S5 and Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 are provided with microSD card slot to expand memory up to 32 GB. Karbonn has a 4 GB Rom memory for its Titanium S5 whereas Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 is provided with internal memory storage of 3 GB. The memory is expandable to 32 GB in both the phones via microSD card. As far as RAM is concerned, the former has an advantage over the later, since it is supported by 1 GB RAM whereas the RAM in Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 is only 512 KB. Karbonn Titanium S5 has better camera capacity and features than the Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802. The former is equipped with an 8 MP primary camera with flash, zoom and video recording features. Compared to this, the Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 has a 5 MP primary camera with a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. This camera also has features like Autofocus, geo-tagging, smile detection and VGA video recording @30fps. Karbonn Titanium has the advantage of the front facing 2 MP secondary camera for video calls, but there is no front facing camera in Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802. Comparison of OS, CPU, Sensors, messaging and battery of the two smartphones
The owners of Karbonn Titanium S5 can feel proud because their smartphone runs on the advanced Android v.4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system while the Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 is supported by Android v2.3 (Gingerboard) operating system. Karbonn Titanium S5 is better placed as far as the processor is concerned. It is powered by 1.2 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and thereby has a better performance and functionality than Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 which is supported by a mere 832 MHz processor. A quad core processor contains four different processors, which are embedded in a single chip. As such, a quadcore processor has the ability to perform four functions at the same time. Karbonn Titanium S5 has sensors like light, proximity and G Sensor, whereas the sensors in its rival Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 are accelerometer, proximity and compass.
Messaging services are not mentioned in Karbonn Titanium S5 but Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 supports SMS (threaded view), MMS and Email. Both the phones have the feature of GPS. There is no Java support in the former as against Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 which is supported by Java via MIDP emulator. The colors available in Titanium S5 are deep blue while they are black, white and La Fleur in Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802. Karbonn Titanium S5 is at an advantage with its powerful battery of 2000 mAh while the Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 is equipped with Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery. There is no information available for talk time and standby time of battery of Karbonn Titanium S5. However, the battery of Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 gives a talk time of Up to 18 h 30 min (2G) / Up to 7 h (3G) and standby time of Up to 570 h (2G) / Up to 420 h (3G).
