This is my review of Microsoft Optical Mouse 100, a reliable and low cost mouse in the optical mouse market. Read this hands-on review to know about the features, price and other details of the Microsoft Optical Mouse 100.

Features of Microsoft Optical Mouse 100

Coming from the brand Microsoft, the Optical Mouse 100 has ergonomic and Ambidextrous design and is easy to use for both right and left handers with 2 buttons and a Vertical Scroll Wheel. The buttons are soft enough to press and gives good feedback when pressed.

With a dimension of 4.47 / 2.48 inch, Microsoft Optical Mouse 100 is a full size mouse and is available in black colour. It is manufactured with good quality material and is very convenient to use.

Optical Mouse 100 is wired with 1.8m cable and user does not need to worry about battery life. It is best for both desktop and laptop and can be connected through a USB port of connector type 4 pin USB Type A.

Plug and Play:

It is a plug and play device and does not require any drivers to be installed. I just took it out of the box, plugged it in the USB port and it took just seconds to get activated and I was using it with ease.

Specifications:

With 3000 fps Imaging Rate and 20 IPS Optical Tracking Speed, it is quite accurate and highly responsive and moves out smoothly without any noise and works on all surfaces. I could work with same accuracy even when the mouse was moved over table or a book.

Microsoft Optical Mouse 100 claims 3000000 Actuations of Button Life.

It has USB 2.0 as interface and is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, XP (excluding Windows XP 64-bit), Mac OS X v10.4, Mac OS X v10.5, Mac OS X v10.6. It is not compatible with Linux.

What could have been improved

Some users may not like the big black full size mouse in this time of sleek and colourful designs, but it is comfortable and good for working. Some people though feel it is little big to carry around with laptop. This is not a tiny mouse but not a full size mouse either.

Side to side scrolling and zoom are not available as this is a basic model.

Some people have reported problem with left button. Sometimes double click is registered for single click and this seems to create issue sometimes with drag-and-drop. But I never encountered this problem during my last several days of use.

Overall, this mouse from Microsoft is a value for money gadget. Unless you are looking for a high end gaming mouse or a wireless mouse, I would suggest you go for it.
