Yahoo Bing Network Contextual Ads program | Ad Networks Review

Microsoft and Yahoo have joined hands together to launch a new contextual advertising program called Yahoo Bing Contextual Ad program. Learn more about this new alternative for AdSense.

Yahoo Bing Network is the new baby born out of the marriage of Microsoft and Yahoo. It is the combined ad market place of Yahoo Ad Network and Bing Ads. The Yahoo Bing Network (YBN) Contextual Ads program is a new product from their joint venture, launched on 27 Sep 2012, and is powered by 3 internet giants:

  • Yahoo - the internet company which has its hands on almost any business on the web.

  • Media.net - the advertising company which manage and operate the Yahoo Bing Contextual Advertising program.

  • Bing - the popular search engine from Microsoft, which powers the Yahoo search as well. The ads from Bing Ads (Microsoft adCenter) will now appear in the partner sites (Publisher sites of Yahoo Bing Network) too.

Media.net is responsible for managing the business and technology with respect to the publishers. On the other hand, Yahoo will be handling the business and technology side of with respect to the advertisers. Yahoo and Media.net hopes they can make this program successful by handling each side of the business by one of the parties.

While Yahoo manages the advertisers and Media.net manages the publishers, the role of Bing in this business model is not very clear. Even though the name "Bing" is part of the ad network's name (Yahoo Bing Network Contextual Ad Program), the name is not mentioned in any of the press releases. In fact, the original press release announcing this program mentions "Yahoo! and Media.net today announced a long-term agreement to launch Yahoo! Bing Network Contextual Ads, powered by Media.net." Do you think Yahoo is committed to make this program successful? Considering the history that they abandoned their previous ad network and they are involving multiple partners in this new network, I am afraid they lack the confidence to make the new Yahoo Bing ad network successful. Definitely this is not a high priority project for Yahoo and Bing.
