An interview with the Managing Director of Mobile retailing giant Sangeetha Mobiles that plans to launch their own brand of phones
Is the King of Mobile Retailing entering the market with his own brand?
Exclusive interview with Mr. Subhash Chandra, Managing Director of Sangeetha Mobiles
Subhash Chandra the aggressive leader of South India's largest Mobile Retail Chain has decided to enter the Mobile phone business in the country with his own brand of mobile phones. Sangeetha Mobiles that Mr. Chandra is the Managing Director of has close to 170 retail outlets across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
When we asked him about the stiff competition that OEM's face in an already over cluttered market place, the ever optimistic flamboyant business honcho divulged his plans to set up retail outlets on a national level.
This might not be very good news for many a mobile manufacturer who could end up losing a considerable chunk of their business that take place through these outlets. Mr. Chandra is however dismissive of those views. He is of the opinion that he would not go out of the way to promote his brand of mobile phones at his retail outlets (Not many manufacturers may actually buy that line).
Mr Chandra however claims that his phones might end up competing with most Indian Manufacturers. It would be interesting to see how many retail outlets Sangeetha Mobiles would establish with a Pan India presence, considering they already have 170 outlets in just three states.
The plan to go national in mobile retailing, and come out with their own devices as well seems to be a clearly planned and cleverly worked out strategy.
Sangeetha managed to become the undisputed leader in the mobile retailing space in the states they are present in because of some very unique schemes like 0% financing options, temporary replacement of handsets while the original is being serviced and an insurance product called 'Swift'.
The company is optimistic that the strong brand loyalty they have created over the years, their experiences in offering multiple brands directly to their customers and their strong reputation with regard to service will easily propel them as a major player in the handset business.
With plans to go public in a couple of years it remains to be seen whether the company will outsource and rebrand the devices they sell or manufacture them directly.
Whatever happens there is a lot for the end consumer to smile about. Mr. Subhash Chandra is 100% sure that smart phones will completely replace the conventional phones very shortly. Logically speaking that means falling prices. Would Sangeetha decide to offer smart phones for less than thousand rupees? Only time will tell.
