How to use Gmail from Outlook.com

It has been only a few days since Microsoft introduced the Outlook.com email service. The new user interface at Outlook.com offers a modern, clean and cool look. While there are many problems involved in upgrading Hotmail account to an Outlook.com account, everyone would agree that the new user interface is very hard to ignore. Many people who upgraded their Hotmail account to an Outlook account has switched back to Hotmail.com account, but they can still continue to use the Outlook.com web interface. How t ouse Outlook.com to send and receive emails using Gmail id


Just like Hotmail.com, you can use Outlook.com webmail client to send and receive your GMail mails as well. There are 2 steps involved in configuring your Outlook.com account to use your GMail:

1. Configure your Gmail account to automatically forward all of your incoming mails to your Outlook.com account

2. Configure your Outlook.com account to send emails using your GMail account

Configure GMail to formward emails to Outlook.com account


Follow the steps below to configure your Gmail account to automtically forward your mails to Outlook.com:

1. Login to GMail
2. Click on the gear icon on the top right corner
3. Select "Settings"
4. Click on the tab "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
5. Click on "Add a forwarding address"
6. Type your Outlook.com email address to which you want your Gmail mails to be forwarded.
7. Click "next"
8. Click "Proceed" to confirm your selection.
9. Click on "Ok" to the final dialog.

Forward Gmail to Outlook

Now login to your Outlook.com account. Go to your inbox where you can see an email from Google. The email from Gmail offers 3 ways to verify you are the owner of the Outlook.com email address you setup at Gmail:

1. Click on the link provided in the email
2. Login to your Gmail account and go back to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" screen. Enter the confirmation code at the prompt and click "Verify".

Make sure you have selected the option "Forward a copy of incoming mail to" after confirming the verification code. Also choose an appropriate action like keep a copy in Gmail account, mark it as read in Gmail, archive Gmail copy, delete Gmail copy etc.

This completes the process of configuring to automatically forward all emails to your Gmail to your Outlook.com address. Try sending an email to your Gmail account and make sure you receive it in Outlook.com.

How to configure Outlook.com to send emails using your Gmail account


After you configure your Gmail account to forward your Gmail mails to your Outlook.com account, you can complete the second half of the process - configure your Outlook.com account to send emails using your Gmail account. Follow the steps below to complete this process:

1. Login to your Outlook.com account
2. Click on the gear icon on the top right corner
3. Click on "More mail settings"

4. Click on the option "Sending/receiving email from other accounts" in your "Managing your account" page
5. Look for the title "You can send mail from these accounts". Click on the link "Add another account to send mail from" below it.
6. In the next screen, type the Gmail address which you want to use to send email through Outlook.com. Proceed to the next screen.

Now Outlook.com will send a confirmation email to your Gmail account to make sure you own the Gmail account and you authorize Outlook to send emails using your Gmail address.

7. Click on the verification link you find in the confirmation email. You will be taken to your Outlook.com account page and will see a confirmation screen that says your Outlook account is ready to send emails using your Gmail address.

Try to send a new mail from your Outlook.com account. On your leftbar, you will see your name as the "From" address. Click on the arrow next to your name and pull down the options. You will see your Gmail address listed there which you can choose as your From address.

If you like to use your Gmail address as your From address in most cases, you may set it up as your default email address in your Outlook.com account to send mails.
