Last year in 2011, CEO of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada conceded that a great damage has been done to its brand Final Fantasy XIV, an MMO RPG that failed to excite critics, and more importantly, failed to excite its fans. But as a company, Square Enix didn't lost its heart and started it all over again. The development team was replaced.



For many other companies this damage would have been the end of it. But not Square Enix. As Producer Nakoi Yoshida puts it, "as a company, we cannot let a title like Final Fantasy XIV end in failure.

.Talking about Final Fantasy XIV:It's a Real Reborn not at all an expansion pack, nor is it a patch. According to the producer Yoshida it is, a complete rebuild of the game, aiming both Personal Computers and PS 3; modern, smooth, and has the capability to beat any of the present MMO's in the world.

Once the development team was replaced, the game started to take the pace. "The developers didn't look at what players really wanted", says Yoshida,"We created a 450-page Excel spreadsheet that documented exactly what it takes to be a great MMO. We want over it with the development team, told them to play other games for inspiration". The result is before you the game that Yoshida claims lives up to the "global MMO standard".

After the new development team started their work a lot of changes were made. The graphics have been improved to a great extent, drove by a new graphics engine, which Yoshida says needed to be as extraordinary as possible. The animation engine has been renovated too, with the minor lag that made the game feel so slothful is now eliminated. A lot of changes in maps have been made too, with some changes in assets also, and there are "thousands" of new missions to complete and vaults to explore.

More significantly, that confusing interface has been updated, and seeing the game in action, it instantly looks a hell of a lot more user friendly. Menus have been updated, icons have been made clearer, and with the customizing option the whole thing can be customized to your own preferences. And that's all about PC version.

The PS 3 version has got completely separate interface, designed obviously for a control pad, by an entirely separate development team. And yes,according to the sources the PS3 version will launch together with its PC complement this time.

Finally a Limit Break system has been introduced, although for groups rather than individuals. If your team has its Limit Break bar powered up, it can unbridle shattering spells, attacks or even heal itself.

Whether or not the changes made by the new development team can change the fortunes of perhaps, the most disappointing entry ever in the Final Fantasy series remains to be seen. Convincing users to once again place their faith in Square Enix might be too much to ask. But from what I've got to see today, Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn is surely well on its way to doing so.
