Want to buy an Android phone with the best features, fast and at the same time doesn't cost much? Intel Xolo is one such phone which will not disappoint you. Read my first hand review on the phone and know the merits and demerits of the phone and decide whether it is the best choice for you or not!
The leader in computer processors, Intel has finally landed in the Smart phone segment. Although the coming of Intel in mobile phone processors itself is not a surprise as it was expected that sooner or later the American multinational company would like to try its hand in one of the most hot segments in the technology sector, it was a bigger surprise when it announced the partner-
Lava mobiles
. The little known android mobile manufactures from India was the least expected company. However, as the phone was launched in the market the speculation and myths about the mobile phone started to dispel.
First of all let us have a look at the specifications of this mobile phone.
Looks and network review of Intel X900
The phone looks quite stylish with a polished and glossy look and at the same time quite heavy. However it was surprising when I hold the mobile as it wasn't as heavy as it looked and in fact is lighter than most of the smartphones in its range. The rubberized back of the phone creates good grip on the hand and control on the phone.
Xolo is a fully touch screen candy bar phone. There is no physical keypad and the screen covers almost all the area of the phone. The phone is GSM based and is quad band.
One important thing to mention here is that the phone does not have any Lava logo! Lava mobiles are just partners with Intel in importing the phone in India and their part pretty much ends here and the company has no hand in manufacturing the Xolo X900. This can come to relief to most of the people who wouldn't like to see the logo of a less reputed company on their high end smart phone. The mobile has decent network capabilities and picks up signal quite well and there is no problem in this regard.
The phone supports 2G and 3G but sadly lacks 4G or LTE technology. This can be a big turn off as 4G is there in the market for some time long, it however may not be a problem with the majority of Indian customers and 4G is not wide spread in India and even the prices of 3G internet services are not something that can be categorized as affordable for the average user.
Display Screen review of Intel X900
The Intel Xolo X900 has a large 4.03 inches capacitive LED backlit LCD touch screen which is placed quite ergonomically which allows easy controlling of the phone even with one hand. The large screen is an added advantage as using applications, playing games and typing on the screen is quite comfortable. Although there are other smartphones which have screens much bigger than the Xolo, they are quite uncomfortable and inconvenient to hold as well as carry around and 4 inch seems to be the perfect screen size of a regular smartphone. Watching videos on the Xolo X900 is one of the greatest experiences as the picture quality and sound quality is quite superb.
It has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and supports 16 million colors which is better than the likes of Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S2.
The phone has a brilliant touch screen response and can be compared to the likes of Apple iPhone 4S and HTC.
Review of Intel Xolo X900 Camera
The Xolo X900 comes with an 8 megapixel camera and comes with 8X digital zoom. Also it can record videos at HD 1090 pixels. Also it comes with a 1.3 MP secondary camera for video conferencing as well as taking self-portraits.
The camera however cannot be compared to the 8 mega pixel camera bundled with some of the well-known phones and it would definitely be great if Intel manages to bundle a better camera with the phone in subsequent editions. However this may not be a big point to some people who don't use their mobile phone as the primary camera.
Review of Operating system and Memory
The Xolo X900 currently comes bundles with the rather old Android v2.3 also known as Gingerbread. However the company has promised to provide Android V4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pretty soon. The operating system is quite decent too and there hasn't been much modifications, if any, in the operating system by Intel. The phone comes with a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor. It comes preloaded with 16 GB internal memory but lacks an option to add external memory card, one of the few bad things about the mobile phone.
The
Xolo is one of the fastest smartphones
I have ever come across and despite my heavy usage including web browsing, playing high graphic games, the phone has never hanged on to me and in fact the speed also didn't reduce at all.
Battery life of Xolo X900
One of the most important aspects of an android phones is the battery life. Running various android applications can seriously drain out the battery and hence it is best to make sure that the battery life is quite good. The Xolo comes in the average category when it comes to battery life. With the 1460 milli ampere hour battery, the Xolo may sound a bit lavish, but in reality the phone battery lasts only for one day for decent use. One major thing here that I would like to tell here is that the battery comes seal packed like iPhone which can cause problems later on or not depending on your choice.
Other features of Xolo X900
The Xolo X900 comes with other great features such as an HDMI port with which one can easily connect the phone on the television and view the larger television screen instead. The quality however is not as good but that is expected from any smart phone. Playing games on the phone is also a great experience and
Price of Intel Xolo X900
The Intel Xolo X900 is currently available in India at a price of Rs 22000. Clearly this is one of the best phones one can get around Rs 20000 and can be a good alternative to people who cannot afford the latest Samsung galaxy s3 or Htc X one smart phone. An upgrade in the operating system will make this beast even more powerful and may surpass your expectations.
Conclusion-
The phone is definitely worth buy and is quite reasonably priced. Some of the components however are not the latest in the tech world but it is great first phone from Intel. I would say that Intel has a great future ahead and one can definitely expect some of the best smartphones in due course of time.
