Comparison between DataWind Aakash tablet with BSNL IS701R tablet
With the launch of Aakash tablet by DataWind in collaboration with Indian Govt, Aakash has been the cheapest tablet available in the world at just Rs 2,250/-. It was initially to be made available only for the students. However, the company then started taking online orders for the tablet from other group of customers. Thus, DataWind gave only 10,000 Aakash tablets to the government of India for distribution in schools and colleges out of the one lakh initially proposed.
Being a Canadian company DataWind was not able to fulfill the promise of delivering 1 lakh tablets. BSNL grabbed the opportunity and launched its own tablet before the euphoria could die. BSNL has now come up with an extremely low cost tablet of its own. Manufactured by Noida based Pantel Technologies, the Penta IS701R tablet has WiFi and is priced at Rs 3,499. The BSNL's Penta IS701R was available in retail stores and BSNL outlets across the country in March 2012, as promised by the managing director of Pantel technologies.
The Aakash tablet comes with less specifications and is priced at Rs 2,500. While its cousin - UbiSlate, is comparatively more powerful and is priced at Rs 2,999. In fact, DataWind has come up with another upgraded version, named UbiSlate7+ with the same cost as of UbiSlate. BSNL's Penta IS701R is priced at Rs 3,499 and comes with a bundle of data plan of 5 GB for 60 days as the FRC, then consumers can recharge the same plan for Rs 750 as regular recharges.
The price difference between the two tablets UbiSlate 7+ and Penta IS701R is just Rs 500 but users will get 5 GB for data download with BSNL's tablet as extra. Whereas, in case of Aakash, the company has not provided details about the data service provider, users can opt for 2GB plan for 30 days through mobile networks.
If pricing is considered, definitely PentaIS701R is expensive by Rs 500/- but if service of BSNL with this tablet is considered, I don't think it will be an issue for PentaIS701R users.
Specifications of UbiSlate 7
While the 7" Aakash tablet has Android 2.2 operating system, an Arm 11 366 MHz processor, a 2100 mAh battery, WiFi and support for a 3G modem.
UbiSlate7+ has the same specifications as UbiSlate except for the additional SIM and phone functionality.
On the other hand, Penta IS701R is a WiFi based only tablet with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.
Here are the specifications of PentaIS701R tablet
In terms of specifications BSNL's tablet seems to have an edge over Aakash or UbiSlate 7+.
If we look at the above given parameters, it is very easily concluded that Penta IS701R has an edge over Aakash or UbiSlate 7+, be it is in terms of availability, price or Specifications.
