Blogspot or Wordpress - which is the better blogging platform

I have used both Wordpress and Blogspot platforms for blogging and I would like to share my views and experiences about both of platforms.

It was Wordpress which made Google to rethink about developing and adding some additional features to Blogger in the year 2011. A very large number of people have shifted their blogs from blogger to Wordpress till the mid of year 2011 and this made Google to launch a new-generation user interface for Blogspot in the year 2011, and due to it only now a days very less number of people are moving their blogs to Wordpress and presently I think Blogspot is much better than it was before one year, but still I found Wordpress as more convenient and better to use for professional bloggers than Blogspot.

Why Wordpress is better than Blogspot?

Here are some reasons why I think Wordpress is a better blogging platform than Google's blogspot:

1. Wordpress is more search engine friendly than Google, some people may think that how is that possible. Blogspot is of Google's own product and Wordpress is an open source software/platform. But it is due to the reason that Wordpress.org (self hosted Wordpress blog) allows you a large number of SEO friendly plugins to install at your Wordpress blog. Don't think that if you publish on Blogspot then Google will index your posts and pages quickly because it is the content of the site which matters first, then other things to Google.

2. You can host your Wordpress blog in any web-hosting websites, which enables you a full control over your blog,as self hosted blog is completely controlled and managed by you.In Blogspot, you can't host your website/blog in any of web-hosting websites as Google does not provide this facility to users, and in this case Google has a full control over your database and content. If knowingly or unknowingly, you violate any of Blogspot's terms and conditions then google may shut down your blog for few days or even permanently in some of the cases. Many blogs have been shut down by Google in past with/without any prior notice to its owner.

3. Wordpress.org (self hosted Wordpress blog) allows you to install a very large number of plugins in your Wordpress website/blog which makes it to look like a professional website and makes user and SEO friendly.

4. In Wordpress, creation of Menus, Categories and pages are very easy. You can even use any of javascripts or php code in your blog . You can easily redirect any pages to different categories or to an external webpage. Wordpress also allows you to create multiple Menus option with multiple levels which is not provided in Blogspot.

5. It is very easy to move or shift from Blogger to Wordpress without loosing any content and traffic which is not possible in the other way around. You cannot easily shift from Wordpress to Blogspot without some manual efforts.

6. Though both the platforms are free to use but Wordpress.org is an open source software in which you can edit anything manually and easily to make your blog better.

Note: Wordpress.com does not allow you this features. In next article I will post about the differences between Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com.
