Google introduces Host Partner Limited AdSense Accounts

Today Google made an important announcement regarding AdSense Publisher accounts. Learn more about the new changes in the AdSense program and see if the new limited AdSense accounts impact you.

UPDATE on 7 Nov 2012: There are some updates from Google regarding the Limited AdSense accounts.

Today Google made an important announcement regarding the AdSense Publisher accounts created through AdSense Host Partner Sites like IndiaStudyChannel.com and Techulator.com.

According to this announcement, starting from first week of June, all AdSense accounts created through Host Partner Sites will be able to use their AdSense accounts only through Host Partner Websites. They won't be able to use their AdSense account in other regular websites like their own blogs and websites. If they want to use the AdSense Publisher account created through Host Partner Sites, they have to submit the AdSense account for additional level of reviews.

What are Host Partner Sites?

A Host Partner Website is a website that is approved by Google to use AdSense APIs to share AdSense revenue to members by associating their AdSense accounts to the Host Site.

Some examples of Host Partner Websites are:

Blogger.com
IndiaStudyChannel.com
dotnetspider.com
Hubpages.com

You can join these Host Partner Sites, create a new AdSense account directly in those sites or associate your existing AdSense account in those sites. These sites are specifically approved by Google to use AdSense Host APIs to interact with Google AdSense Services and create or modify the AdSense accounts of the members.

Why does Google introduce Limited AdSense Accounts?

Even though this comes as a limitation, I strongly support this move by Google. I have noticed many people join these Host Partner Sites (including my own site IndiaStudyChannel.com) just for the purpose of creating new AdSense accounts and then go elsewhere to abuse it. Google wants to stop this abuse and I am with Google on it.

How does this change affect Adsense Publishers?

If you are an existing AdSense publisher, this change will have no impact for you. You can continue to use your existing AdSense account anywhere as you have been doing in the past.

If you are new to AdSense and if you plan to apply for a new AdSense account through a Host Partner Site like Blogger.com or IndiaStudyChannel.com, you will not be able to use that new AdSense account anywhere other than the Host Partner sites. For example, starting from June, if you get a new AdSense account approved through IndiaStudyChannel.com, you can use it in other Host Partner sites like Blogger.com, Hubpages.com etc. But you will not be able to use it in your own website or other websites that use AdSense rotation.

If you like to use your "Limited AdSense" account in other websites, you will have to go through additional reviews. Google has not announced more details on how this additional review process will work.

I think this new "limits" on new AdSense accounts created through Host Partner Sites will help new applicants as well. Since the accounts are limited, we may see a higher rate of approvals for AdSense applications from AdSense revenue sharing sites like IndiaStudyChannel.com.

Many people used to join these sites e.g., India Study Channel, Hubpages, WebAnswers etc. just for getting a fully approved "normal" Adsense account so that they can use it on different sites without any restriction. These changes will restrict them to do so. It is a good approach from Google.
