Mass Effect 3 Game user review is given here. BioWare and Electronic Arts brings to us Mass Effect 3-the final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy. Read more to find out about its campaign highlights, gameplay mechanics and system requirements and whether it is a suitable conclusion the enormously popular first two games.
When Mass Effect was released in 2007 to the consoles and later ported to the pc platform in 2008,it left the gaming world astounded with its capability of allowing one to play as well as think at the same time. Released to universal acclaim,it spawned a sequel-Mass Effect 2(2010)-one of those rare games which not only built upon but also bettered its predecessor. On March 6,2012 BioWare and Electronic Arts released the third and final installment of the Mass Effect saga to the next generation consoles and pc platform.
Campaign Storyline
Mass Effect 3 campaign kicks off after the events of Mass Effect 2 expansion pack Arrival where Commander Shepard gathered evidence of an oncoming Reaper invasion and follows his quest to save the galaxy from this invasion by rallying together the various warring clans.
Being the final game in the series it is understandable that the threat of the Reapers-a race of mechanical beings intent on annihilating all life forms in the galaxy-is much more imminent and menacing in Mass Effect 3 than the previous installments. This is where Mass Effect 3 succeeds for starting off with a harrowing attack on Earth where Shepard and his crew are forced to flee in their ship,Normandy, the storyline then moves over to their attempt to scout the galaxy in order to assemble forces to stand a chance against the Reapers.
Matters are further complicated by Cerberus-a mysterious agency with a agenda of its own. Throughout the course of the campaign old characters re-appear,new ones are introduced, relationships are developed, politics are negotiated and alliances are forged-all of which will come into account to formulate the outcome of the final stand against the Reapers.
Gameplay
Like the previous installments, the core gameplay mechanics of Mass Effect 3 is that of any Role-Playing Game with emphasis being put on the choices made by the player. Even though this is the most fulfilling Mass Effect 3 experience, gamers have the chance of adopting an 'Action Mode'(where the emphasis is more on the action and less on the story and its choices) or a 'Story Mode'(its focus being on telling the story and emphasizing the complex and ambiguous moral choices).
Irrespective of which game mode you choose,Mass Effect 3 plays like any standard third-person shooter with cover and team-management dynamics. BioWare and Electronic Arts has fine tuned the shooting as well as cover system so that the game is a seamless blend of both.
Graphics
Mass Effect 3 not only plays better,it looks better as well. Level designs are enormous as well as beautiful, with added focus being given on the lighting system so that the prominence of light and shadows is felt more here. The textures are more detailed as well which makes the characters not only beautiful but also life-like. The game's graphics engine(Unreal Engine 3)is so well optimised that a decent hardware configuration would ensure a steady frames per second.
System Requirements
• Operating System: Windows XP,Vista or Windows 7
• CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz(2.4 GHz recommended)
• RAM: 2 GB for XP/ 4 GB for Vista or Windows 7
• Hard Drive Space: 15 GB free
• Graphics Card: 256 MB with Pixel Shader 3 support(512 MB recommended)
The Verdict
Released to overwhelming critical and commercial success Mass Effect 3's intuitive blend of action and narrative driven content in a never before seen epic scale brings a fitting finale to the enormously popular Mass Effect franchise.
