How to claim your blog in Technorati and use your token like GSMSF3HU6XUF

I am trying to claim this technology blog in Technorati and I am going through the odd process of using a token (GSMSF3HU6XUF) in a post in the blog. If you are trying to figure out how to claim your blog in Technorati, read this blog.

Technorati is a great place for bloggers to promote their blog. I did not use Technorati so much in the past, but right now I am in an aggressive mode to promote my blogs using all available platforms. I have nothing against Technorati, so today I started my efforts to promote my blogs through Technorati. If it helps to get some traffic, why not use it?

How to submit your blog to Technorati

Technorati calls this process as 'Claim your blog'. It is nothing but telling Technorati about your blog and claim it in your Technorati profile.

To submit your blog or claim it, you need to have an account in Technorati. If you don't have a Technorati account, you can register and create an account.

Claim your blog at Technorati

Once you register and validate your email address, you can start claiming your blog by submitting the URL, Rss feeds and few other details. It is not a long process, even though it asks some strange questions like which other blogs link to your blog!

You can claim your blog by going through your account page at Technorati. Here is the link.

Look below your profile information and you will see a textbox like this to claim the blog by providing the blog URL:

How to claim your blog in Technorati

Once you provide the blog url, RSS feed address and some other basic information about your blog, you will get an automated email from Technorati. Here is the email I received:

This is an automatically-generated email.

Thank you for submitting your blog claim on Technorati. Technorati will need to verify that you are an author of the site http://www.techulator.com by looking for a unique code. We have just assigned the claim token GSMSF3HU6XUF to this claim. Please visit http://technorati.com/account/ for more details, including how to use the claim token.

Thank you.

This appears to be a really strange way to claim a blog. I am forced to use this meaningless token in the text of my blog post. Moreover, there is no instruction on how to use this token. I had to try this in various places including title, summary etc to figure out which will work.

The message says the instructions can be found if you login and look at your account in Technorati. However, if you login, all you see is, my blog listed there with a button below it that says 'Check your Claim'. Naturally, everybody will be tempted to click on that link, but remember you have not inserted the claim token anywhere yet and Technorati hasn't told you how to do it yet.

After Googling for a while, I figured out how to do it! I could either use it in the title of some existing blogs or I could create a blog post like this.

I decided to create a new blog post on how to claim blog in Technorati using Claim Token instead of messing up an existing blog post.

Why can't Technorati make the process little bit easier by using some meta tags or a custom file placed in the root of the blog?

I don't think using a claim token to claim a blog is a good idea. Anyway, as long as it works and I could claim my blog at Technorati, that is what I want!
