Facebook and Google abide by Indian laws on content

In this article, you will know that Facebook and Google+ social networks followed the directives received from Indian court on violating some policies in the internet world. 21 website companies received Indian court order


There were total 21 companies who have received Indian court order to remove contents from their website which violating the rules. Internet giants Facebook and Google Inc agreed it and removed content from some Indian domain websites on today dated 5th Feb 2012, they too have received Indian high court order to ensure that social network sites run smoothly without violating any Indian laws.

Block materials on religious offensive


Indian court ordered 21 website companies to block material on religious offensive matter after private petitioners took them to court over images against offensive against Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Since India is the largest democracy in the world where major religions exists and value their worships, sensible and seriousness, thus they are hard to tolerate in violating images for their religious matter.

Case against Social Networks and other websites in India


Initially, there were two cases brought against internet companies in India by individuals. Indian court said last year (2011) that this dispute to be taken solely by the website companies and they have given them responsibility for user’s content posted on their websites to be removed within 36 hours in case there is a complaint.



Today, the court directive warned to those 21 website companies for a crackdown "like China" if they would not take steps to protect religious matter. Google India representative Paroma Roy Chowdhury told that Google review team has looked at the content and disabled this content from the local domains of (Google) search, Youtube and Blogger.

Other than this, Microsoft has already filed to reject the suit on the grounds that it opens no cause of action against Microsoft. Google, Facebook, Yahoo and Microsoft have appealed in the Delhi High Court against a separate criminal case successfully brought by journalist Vinay Rai.

After this directive from Indian court, civil rights groups have opposed the new laws on these social networks. Politicians says that posting religious offensive images in the internet world where huge numbers of all religions visitors visits, a socially conservative country like India, that already had face a history of violence between various religious groups, that can presents a danger to the public.

Nice article Hafeezur Rehman, I agree with the court order and I was always in the favor of implementing some check and balance on these social networks. As these were getting dirtier day by day, full of porn and contents which would be hurting the religious sentiments.
