If you are planning to download and install Windows Server 8, it is a good idea to take a look at the system requirements for Windows 8 Server. Your computer must meet the minimum system requirements to install Windows Server 8.

Windows Server 8 is the code name of the upcoming server operating system from Microsoft. Microsoft has not announced the official name for the upcoming Windows Server 8, but most analysts think the current name will be retained for the official release of Windows 8 Server.

Microsoft has published the system requirements for Windows Server 8 developer preview edition. The system requirements for the public release of Windows Server 8 may change slightly.

Processor requirements for Windows Server 8
The minimum clock speed requirements for installing Windows Server 8 is "1.4 GHz". The Windows Server 8 developer preview will run only on 64-bit processor, so make sure your computer has a 64-bit processor. The installation require only 1 CPU, but multiple CPUs or multiple cores would enhance the performance of the Windows Server 8.

RAM requirements for Windows Server 8
A minimum of 2GB RAM is required to install Windows Server 8. Typically, servers require a lot more memory to perform well and run various services. Even though 2GB is the minimum required RAM, to get a reasonably good performance, you must add more memory to your computer.

Disk space requirements for Windows Server 8
The basic installation of Windows Server 8 require a minimum of 32 GB disk space. However, to perform various other disk actions like partitioning, paging, hibernation etc. If your computer has a lot of RAM, it may require more disk space also to handle bigger paging files etc.

Other requirements for installing Windows Server 8 developer preview build including a DVD drive (if you want to install from a DVD), Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution monitor, keyboard and mouse etc. If you want to update the latest files from the web, you need an active internet connection as well.

To install any Plug n' Play drivers, you need digitally signed drivers. Windows Server 8 will not load any unsigned drivers, to add protection to your server.

Microsoft recommends you disconnect any extra accessories connected to the server like USB devices, UPS etc. Windows 8 Server will automatically try to load the attached devices, which may conflict with the installation.
