Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo may get banned in India. On 13th January 2012, Indian Government filed a case in Delhi High Court. This case against all these websites is due to the objectionable content in their web pages. India may ban websites like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo if these websites do not take appropriate steps to block objectionable content. Read the article to know more about this case in Delhi High Court.
These days, Indian ministry is trying to put constraints on telecom sector. Kapil Sibbal has raised objections against Microsoft, Facebook, Google Yahoo and 17 other websites. He has asked the search engines and social networking websites to remove objectionable content on their webpages.
These companies refused to accept the demand made by Mr. Sibal. The executives of these companies stated that it was too difficult to keep a check on the users that added new content to webpages. Indian ministry has filed this case against social networking websites in Delhi High Court. The ministry demands serious action against social networking websites if they do not remove objectionable content and continue to block such content in future. The ministry wants the websites to design a mechanism to check unwanted activities on internet.
Kapil Sibbal objected the adult or unwanted pictures of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi on these websites. The Delhi high court has adjourned the case till now. The Court has directed the external affairs ministry to handle summons issued to these foreign based websites.
The petition is made to remove objectionable content from 21 websites. Out of these 21 websites, 12 websites belong to foreign based companies. These companies appeared in Delhi High Court but the case is still pending. Indian government wants these companies to face trial under sections 292 (sale of obscene books), 293 (sale of obscene objects to a young person) of the Indian Penal Code. Indian Government wants some action against these websites as soon as possible. The case was filed in Delhi High Court on 13 January 2012. Now the question is will the websites like Microsoft, Facebook, Google and Yahoo get banned in India?
If, like China, these websites also get banned in India, then what would be the future like? We hope this issue between Indian Government and the websites resolves soon.
