Microsoft announced Kinect for Windows in CES 2012

Finally Microsoft which was supposed to have the last appearance for Consumer Electronic Show 2012 banged the whole show with their announcement that they will be launching Kinect for Windows units from February 1st. They also said that the Pre-Orders have already started at Amazon.com. The price for the Kinect for Windows will be 249.99$ which is now available for Pre-Order.
Already Kinect has been used by Microsoft as a USP in Xbox 360 gaming console. Around 66 million of Xbox 360 has been sold in the past years with 18 million Kinect sensors fixed in it as an USP. So Microsoft has decided to go on with Kinect in Windows units also.

Microsoft told the media that they announcing the new Kinect for Windows hardware and accompanying software also from February 1st, 2012. At the first stage, they will make it available for all Windows Hardware and Software through the retailer and distributers only in the following 12 countries at a price of US $249. Also they will be in limited quantities and soon they will bring lot based on the success and need of it in the market. The 12 countries which get the Kinect at first stage are,

4. France
5. Germany
6. Ireland
7. Italy
8. Japan
9. Mexico
10. New Zealand
11. Spain
12. United Kingdom.

As said above, the price of the Kinect will be US $249 which includes a one-year warranty. This one-year warranty gives you the access to both human tracking and speech updates of the ongoing software with continued investment in Kinect for Windows-based software advancements which will come in future. Also Microsoft said that they would offer special academic pricing which could be around US $149 only for the Qualified Educational Users later this year.

So finally, the Kinect will be available for Windows which will be supported by both Windows 7 and Windows 8 Developer Preview. It is also said that Kinect would give an added support for Windows Embedded-based devices. As off now only 12 countries will get the Kinect for Windows sensor at a retail price of US $249 and it will soon launched in other countries based on the response from this. Also the availability will be only in limited quantity in these 12 countries also. Later this year you could also find that the Kinect would be available at a special price of US $149 only for Qualified Educational Users.
