Windows 8 Developer Preview was released for general public on 13th September,2011 by Microsoft. Microsoft confirmed that it will be releasing a public beta of Windows 8 in February,2012 as per information published in www.tomshardware.com website. Windows 8 public beta to be released in February,2012

We all know that Windows 8 Developer Preview was released in September,2011 for general public. Lot of people around the world downloaded and learned how to install Windows 8 developer preview in their computers. Many manufacturers also started developing Windows 8 tablets. Samsung is planning to release the first Samsung Windows 8 tablet in 2012 after the release of Windows 8 OS.

Now Microsoft is planning to release the public beta of Windows 8 in February,2012. This was confirmed by Microsoft during a San Franscisco developers event held on 6th December,2011 as per the information published in the website www.tomshardware.com.

It seems more than 13 million copies of Windows 8 Developer Preview were downloaded after the release of Windows 8 Dev Preview in Sept,2011 by Microsoft. The exact date for Windows 8 public beta release is not yet announced by Microsoft but it is sure that it will be released in Feb., 2012. No information is still available till now what will be there in beta version for us to play with. If the public beta is released in Feb., 2012, then we can expect the launch of Windows 8 by September,2012.

On 6th Dec., 2011, Microsoft also launched Windows 8 First App Contest challenging the developers to create Metro-style apps that will be chosen as launch applications in Windows Store during the beta release in Feb., 2012. The winning developers will get a front row seat on the opening day and also a Samsung Windows 8 Developer Preview PC, a year of Windows Azure and 2 year subscription to Store. The last date for submitting a Metro App to the contest is 8th January,2012.
