Firmware implementation in the PC – BIOS or UEFI:

Before control is handed over to the operating system the basic hardware initialization is done by firmware. BIOS is used since PC invented but UEFI was developed as a replacement for BIOS in late 1990. UEFI was designed from the ground up to work with very large capacity. There are some innovative features which we can expect from coming Windows 8 like Secure Boot, Encrypted Drive, Fast Start-up etc. Learning from all the prior versions of Windows and by implementing some new innovative technology Windows 8 is going to have this new feature file system. Windows 8 is being developed by the combination of UEFI firmware + GPT partitioning + LBA which will allow Windows to fully address very large capacity disks with ease.
