The enormous interest of people around the globe to have Aakash, the cheapest tablet pc in the world is on the peak as the device has received 3 lakh pre-booking orders just before few weeks left for the commercial launch. The Aakash which cost Rs 3,000 is getting tremendous enquires from different parts of the country and also from other countries too. Already Datawind has started distributing a model of the tablet in schools and colleges. According to the Datawind CEO Sunnet Singh Tulsi, the company has build up a technology through which accessing internet would be made free with a data plan of Rs 99 per month. It is expected that Airtel would be join hands with Datawind to provide the dream data plan. Earlier around 10,000 tablets were given to students studying in different IIT's and other Universities to test the consistency.
An improved version of the Aakash which is named as Aakash 2 would be an upgraded version with more features which include a 800 MHz microprocessor, 1 GB RAM and a build in camera for video chat. The company plans to supply a keyboard which can be attached to the tablet adding Rs 400 more to the proposed price. The success of Datawind to build Aakash for India has brought more opportunities for the company getting invitations from heads of different countries to be a part of their innovative programs. India being one among the major country to be the biggest market for gadget makers, every product available here has lot of fan followers. As the tablet would be made available with less than the cost of a mobile phone, its true that more students and youngsters would aspire to own a unit. The entry of Aakash had really brought worrisome to companies like Reliance and Bharati who are expected to bring up the best ever data plans for their tablets. Bharati's Beetel Magiq had been in news few months back which had got high demand in the initial stages. But as the market became hotter, companies are trying to cut the price tag of the tablet to attract more customers.
Samsung is now dominating the tablet market with around 80% share. We can expect a real competition in the coming days as more tablets would be unveiled.
