This article guides you to install and enable telnet in Windows 8. Windows 8 Developer Preview was released few weeks ago for general public. Windows 8 comes without telnet client for security reasons. So you cannot connect to other computers with telnet.

How to enable Telnet in Windows 8

We all know that Windows 8 Developer Preview was released few weeks ago for use by general public. Lot of new features of Windows 8 were introduced during the Build conference where Windows 8 Developer Preview was released. But some features were also removed due to security reasons. One such feature is telnet client which does not come by default with Windows 8. So it is not possible for you to connect to other computers with telnet. If you type 'telnet' in command prompt, it will return an error message saying 'not recognized as an internal or external command'. This problem can be solved by enabling telnet client in Windows 8. This articles gives you a simple method to install and enable telnet in Windows 8. Please follow the instructions given below:

First click on Control Panel

Now go to left side bottom and click on More Settings

Now click on 'Programs and Features' in classic view of Control Panel

Now click on 'Turn Windows features on or off' in next screen
Now you will see a dialog box where you can select extra features

Select 'Telnet Client' by selecting the check box next to it. A small installation will run after you press OK button

There is no need for restarting. You can now directly start using telnet client in Windows 8
