How to install Printer in Windows 8

Windows 8 Developer Preview was released for general public during the BUILD conference held in September,2011. But many device drivers are not working on Windows 8 Developer Preview and many printers are not detected in Windows 8 Developer Preview. I will be addressing the printer problem in this article.

How to install Printer in Windows 8

Windows 8 Developer Preview was released for general public during the BUILD conference in September,2011. There was an overwhelming response to the new operating system by Microsoft. Lakhs of people downloaded Windows 8 Developer Preview and started testing the new features of Windows 8. There are some complaints that printers are being detected in Windows 8 Developer Preview and many people are unable to install their printers in Windows 8 Developer Preview. It is very unfortunate that many device drivers are not working on Windows 8 Developer Preview and this is expected.

I have seen one user posting a problem related to HP printer installation in Windows 8 Developer Preview. This question was posted in one of the Windows related forums. Here is the question posted by the member.

I Cant install my Hp Laserjet Printer in windows 8 developer preview.. When i click on Add printer then it only shows busy..but not detect any printer... PLz help me...

The above question was posted in one of the Windows forums. There was a response from Mr. Steven who is the Support Engineer from Microsoft showing a solution to his problem with printer installation. I am giving the step by step solution here which was given by Mr. Steven in the Windows forums so that this could be useful for people who have printer installation problems with Windows 8 Developer Preview.

Try to download and install the driver for the printer fro the HP Support and Drivers website. ( http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html).

If the driver is not able to install succesfully, try using the compatibility trouble shooter to see if it can help the driver to install properly. The compatibility trouble shooter can be opened by the following steps:

* Enter the Start Screen
* Move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen to expand the Charms section
* Select Search
* Type Compatibility
* Click Settings in the right column
* Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows

Now follow the prompts and direct the troubleshooter to the installer for the computer's driver. You will likely want to choose the choice for This program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now when it is given if the latest driver is only applicable to a different version of Windows.
