Read this article to know more about the step by step procedure on how to enable Snap feature in Windows 8 operating system.
We all know Microsoft recently released a new operating system which is code-named as Windows 8. The Windows 8 which is released is the Developers preview version. This release from Microsoft is intended for Developers to test their latest operating system. Windows 8 operating system has many new features when compared to other Windows operating systems. Metro user interface is the latest UI for Windows 8 operating system.
Apart from the Metro UI, one of the important newly introduced feature in Windows 8 is the "Metro Apps". Windows 8 has Apps in its operating system and one can download the latest Apps from Windows 8 App store. In this article, I will explain the step by step procedure on how to enable Snap feature in Windows 8 operating system.
How to enable Snap feature in Windows 8 OS ?
Many people who are dealing with Windows 7 and Windows 8 will confuse with the newly introduced Snap feature with Windows 7 Aero Snap feature. Aero snap feature in Windows 7 allowed users to snap Windows to left or right side of the monitor where users can resize to take up exactly half of the available screen. One can move a windows to the top to maximize it.
"Snap" in Windows 8 refers to the new Metro user interface feature. In Windows 8, one can enable it to run and display more than one program in the Metro interface. By using the
Snap
feature, one can display two program windows in the interface instead of only one. One can enable Snap, if the computer monitor resolution is set to 1336*78 or higher. Those who run lower resolution than the above can't able to make use of Snap on their Windows 8 operating system. One can easily enable the Snap feature in Windows 8 by making a few changes to one of the Registry key in Windows 8 OS. Follow the steps mentioned below to enable the Snap feature in Windows 8 OS.
Steps to be followed to enable Snap feature in Windows 8 Operating system
1) Open the Registry editor in Windows 8 Operating system.
2) One can open the Registry editor by pressing "Windows+R" and then typing "Regedit" in the run box.
3) When you hit enter, you will taken to the Registry Editor in Windows 8 operating system.
4) One should go to the Registry Key
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\AppPositioner\
5)After that, Right-click in the right pane and one should select New > Dword (32-bit) from the context menu.
6)You should name the new key as "AlwaysEnableLSSnapping" and you should enter "1" in the Value data field.
7)Now, click ok and restart the computer.
After restarting the computer, now one can display two program windows side by side in the Windows 8 user interface.
