Windows 8 developer preview has been released for general public recently for free to try out the features of Windows 8. This article gives some insight into the way in which you can create your own Windows 8 Shortcuts.

Windows 8 developer preview has been released by Microsoft recently during the BUILD conference held last week and lakhs of people downloaded the Windows 8 developer preview and installed it in their machines. Now let us see how we can create our own Windows 8 short cuts.

If you already downloaded Windows 8 developer preview, you might have seen how easy it is to customize and move all the Windows tiles around on your desktop. What will you do if you want to create your own short cuts for portable applications which would be really useful to you. Let us see how we can do this in Windows 8. I will explain one method here to create your own Windows 8 short cuts.

  • First open Windows explorer and goto the following path.
    %appdata%\microsoft\windows\Start Menu\Programs\

Once you goto the above path, you can browse to one of the folders, so that you can leave a shortcut in that folder

  • Now create your shortcut for what ever you like - for example, you can create a shortcut for shutdown or reboot which is nothing but a link to the shutdown.exe file. You can even assign an icon to the short cut as well.

  • Now hit the winodws key to go back to Metro interface, and then type in "shutdown" or what ever the name of shortcut you have

  • Once you type in the name of the shortcut, you will see it on the left side. Now right click on it to select it, or you can nudge it up and down if you are using touch screen

  • Now click on the Pin icon on the bottom right-hand corner

  • Now you will have the new shortcut on the main screen.
