How to change Windows 8 Lock screen background

Windows 8 developer preview was released last week and lot of people downloaded and started using it. Windows 8 desk top looks beautiful with the new lock screen of Windows 8. The Windows 8 lock screen displays useful data on the desktop when it is locked. This article gives the way in which you can personalize the lock (logon) screen in Windows 8.


How to change Windows 8 Lock screen


Windows 8 build preview was released for public last week during the Microsoft BUILD conference held at Anaheim, California. Lot of people started downloading it and using it. We have published an article on how to Download and install Windows 8 build preview.

Personalizing the lock (logon) screen in earlier versions of Windows was a difficult process that too for novice users. You had to use some third party tools like Windows 7 Logon Editor, Logon Screen Changer, Logon Tweater etc to replace the default logon screen with a custom one. Even though there is a procedure to manually change the Windows 7 logon screen background, it involved editing the Registry which is very difficult for normal users.

But in Windows 8 personalizing the logon screen (lock screen) is very very simple job. You can easily change the lock screen background. You do not need any third-party tools to personalize the lock screen in Windows 8. This article explains a step by step method to personalize the lock screen in Windows 8. Here is a step by step guide on how to change the default lock screen back ground in Windows 8.

Step 1: Click on Control Panel tile to launch the Metro control panel.

Step 2: Now the Control Panel window opens up. Click on Personalize in the left panel of Metro Control Panel to see the available settings to personalize the lock screen.

step 3: You can select the picture of your choice as the lock screen background or click on Browse button to browse an image file that you want to use as the lock screen background. Left click on the image of your choice and click Choose Picture button to set the new image file as the new lock screen background.

Step 3: Click on the browse button to browse to the image file that you want to use as the lock screen background. Use the navigation options available in the top left of screen to browse to the image file, left click on image file to select it and then click Choose picture button to set the new image file as your lock screen background.

Step 4:Use the Windows + L hot key to view the new lock screen background.
