How to enable Safe Boot option in Windows 8 OS

Read this article to know the step by step procedure for enabling the safe boot option in Windows 8 operating system. By default, safe boot option is not enabled in Windows 8 operating system.


Though Windows 8 operating system has many new features installed by default, some old features like "the classic start menu, old interface of Windows Explorer, hibernate options" are not enabled by default. By making some tweaks to the new Windows 8 operating system, one can get back the classic Start menu in Windows 8 operating system. By making some changes to power options, we can easily get Hibernate option in Windows 8 operating system.

Apart from the above, there is no Safe Boot option in Windows 8 operating system. Safe boot option is a handy option when we encounters any problem in the operating system. By using the Safe boot option, we can load only the default drivers which are required for booting the operating system, with which we can identify which drivers or software creating problem for booting. In old Windows operating system, one can easily safe boot by pressing "F8" key when booting. In the new Developers preview of Windows 8 OS, there is no safe boot option. To get the safe boot option, you should follow the steps mentioned below.

Steps to enable Safe boot option in Windows 8 operating system


1) When you are in the Metro Interface of Windows 8, type "Cmd".

2) When you type cmd, command prompt App will be displayed. Right click on the App, at the bottom you will find "Advanced" option.

3) Click on the "Advanced" option, select "Run as Administrator".

4) Once you click on that, you will be on the Command Prompt screen.

5) Type the following code in the screen without mistake.


bcdedit /enum /v

6) Once you press enter after typing, you will get all the valid boot entries.

7) select & copy the identifier GUID of Windows Developer. It will be the first option in the Windows Boot loader.

8) After copying it, you have to type the following command in the command prompt.

Bcdedit /copy {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} /d "Windows Developer Preview – Safe Boot"


Where {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx} will be your GUID number

9) After doing that, tpye msconfig in the command prompt, and hit enter.

10) Now, go to the boot tab and select the "safe boot" option.

11) Now, select the "make all boot settings permanent".

12) Click on Apply. After clicking on Apply, you will get a system configuration message, click Yes and press ok button in the msconfig window.

13)Restart the system to make changes effect.

14) As soon as system starts, you can see the Safe boot option for the Windows 8 Developer preview.
