Read this article to know more about the step by step procedure on how to decrease the number of rows in the Metro user interface of Windows 8 operating system.

As I downloaded and installed Windows 8 operating system in VMware Workstation 8, from the past few days I am busy in testing the features of Windows 8 operating system. Windows 8 looks good with the new Metro interface. Many useful Apps were present on the start screen of Windows 8 operating system. The good thing about the Apps in Windows 8 is, "when you are not using the Apps, they run in the background without using processor, simply they will be in the sleep state". Once you resume the App, they will be back in to action very quickly. The negative part about the App's is, till now, there is no way to close the Apps which were opened and running in the background.

Apart from the Apps, when you press the "Window" key in keyboard, you will get the Metro screen, you won't get the classic Start menu. You can use some Windows 8 Tweakers to get back the normal classic start menu in Windows 8 operating system.

If you want to reduce the number of rows in the new Metro UI, there is a procedure to do that. Below are the steps which you should follow to reduce the number of rows in the Metro UI of Windows 8 operating system.

Steps to reduce the number of rows in Metro User Interface

1) When you are in the Metro screen, press "Window key+R" in your keyboard to get the run dialog box.

2) In the run box, type "regedit.exe" and press enter to open the Registry.

4) Now, on the right side, search for the entry "Layout_MaximumRowCount". Click on that and select a number lower than the number present in it.

5) If there is no " Layout_MaximumRowCount", you can create it by right clicking, New --> Dword(32bit value).
