In this post, I will discuss the official Windows 8 system requirements. No more we all need to depend on the rumors. Microsoft has officially announced the hardware, software and system requirements for the Windows 8 Developer preview build.
We have been hearing that Windows 8 will be lightweight, fast and clean. People loved Windows XP but then came Windows Vista which disappointed most of us. Then Microsoft introduced Windows 7 which was the most successful Windows release ever. Release of Windows 8 is a real challenge for Microsoft, one of the main reasons behind it is the success of Windows 7. Microsoft will have a tough time convincing people to get rid of their fast and clean Windows 7 and embrace the much better Windows 8.
In order to convince people to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8, Microsoft would have to offer something really better. One thing most of hate to do is, upgrade our computers to install a newer version of Windows. Here is the good news - Windows 8 will run on your existing hardware which runs Windows 7. So, if you have been running Windows 7 on an old PC, be assured that Windows 8 can run on it, and run faster.
Windows 8 System requirements
Here is the official Windows 8 system requirements from Microsoft:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor
Processor can be 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit
1 GB RAM for 32-bit and 2 GB RAM for 64-bit
16 GB available hard disk space for 32-bit and 20 GB disk space for 64-bit
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
If you like to take advantage of the multi touch features, you need hardware that support multi-touch enabled screens.
