September 12, 2011 is the day of Windows 8 operating system. On this day, Microsoft revealed about their new operating system which they internally code named it as Windows 8 operating system. Although, Microsoft gave an hint about how Windows 8 looks, there is no idea about what are the new features which were placed in the Windows 8 operating system. From the past few months, many rumors spread across the internet, about user interface(UI) of Windows 8 operating system.
Making rumors real, Microsoft conformed that Windows 8 will have an Metro style of user interface. Metro style is the new UI of Windows phone 8. Apart from the UI, Microsoft revealed many other features in the build conference. Microsoft stated that Windows 8 is not only for the personnel computers, it is both for PC's and tablets. To make curious about Windows 8 operating system, Microsoft, a month back started a blog called Building Windows 8 in which some of the Engineers who worked on Windows 8 are authoring the posts. They revealed many features of Windows 8.
Steven who is a product manager at Microsoft, stated that with Windows 8 operating system, they want to re-imagine Windows. As per a market survey, Many of the PC's today are mobile devices like laptops, notebooks, netbooks, tablets, slates etc. Almost every PC is capable of wireless connectivity. So, Microsoft want to design a operating system, which is compatible for all of the above devices. Though it is a difficult task, Microsoft made their first step with Windows 7 operating system. They succeeded in Windows 7 with few features like speed, reliability, security and compatibility. They want to deliver more than this in the Windows 8 operating system. Microsoft, decided to deliver more security features, faster startup and longer battery life which runs on a wider choice of devices and chipsets. They want to extend these features for the touch-optimized devices also.
Metro Style of UI for Windows 8
Microsoft, demonstrated about the new user interface of Windows 8 operating system in a video few months back. Microsoft received both positive and negative comments about the new interface. Though, they got both, they finally decided to go with the Metro style interface. Main features of Metro style interface are, it shows the information which is important yo you. It is simple and gives users more control. The new interface is a personalized layout which is clean typography and animations to makes more interacting with users PC.
Mainly, the new interface is built for touch devices. With the help of touch, users can do what they want to do quickly. The new start screen on Windows 8 will puts all of users Apps in front of them, with which they can get quick and immediate access. There is no need to remember which is stored on which drive. Windows 8 is capable of recognizing type, click or swipe with which users can easily navigate around the operating system without much effort.
Start Screen in Windows 8 operating system
The start screen or welcome screen in Windows 8 will give users a fast way to interact with all Apps and others. The tiles which were present on the screen are live with all the information like weather update, friends status update, calender appointment, top movie in users Netflix queue etc. The best thing about the start screen in Windows 8 is, one can easily personalize their start screen with shortcuts to their favorite things like websites, playlist, photo albums etc. Users can decide what they want on the screen and how they want to group them on the screen. Users can optimize for efficiency by adding speed bumps between groups of Apps, so that they don't have to swipe back and front when they are moving around the start screen.
