Read this article to know more about how the new copy jobs feature works effectively in Windows 8 operating system. Recently, in their blog post, Microsoft revealed the information about new copy jobs in Windows 8 operating system.
In my previous article I discussed about the new improvements for the
Copy Jobs
feature in Windows 8 operating system. Recently, in the Microsoft blog, they discussed in detail about the new
Copy Job
feature which they have implemented in Windows 8 operating system.
Based on the many comments which Microsoft got for the Copy Jobs post, they decided to explain in detail about the
Choose Files
dialog for resolving
File name collisions
. Microsoft want to share some of the design iterations and their usability testing which led to the new design.
As per Microsoft's blog, in the new implemented design for the file name collisions, there are two levels of controls which were acting on file name collisions or conflicts. They are
1)
Simple Conflict Resolution
dialog - In the first one, it is a simplified one-click procedure, which manages all conflicts by offering "Replace all" or "skip all".
2)
Detailed Conflict Resolution
dialog - In the second one, they offers more information and more fine-grained control on the file name collision.
As per Microsoft, resolving file name collisions is an trick task, which involves making a meaningful choice between two very similar things. In the following image, you can see how the
File name collision
will be handled in Windows 3.1 operating system.
In Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft made many visible changes when compared to Windows 3.1 operating system. There are lot's of information is available about the file which is facing file name collision issue in Windows 7 operating system. One can easily go through more option which were available to resolve the conflict.
In Windows 8, Microsoft thought to improve the
file name collision
feature more efficiently by introducing these three changes. They are
1) Getting rid of un-necessary labels which were like "Date modified" and the explanatory text with which Microsoft provide the important details about the file at a glance.
2) Metadata adjectives were emphasized. Rather than requiring users to compare values like file size, using words like "Larger" gave users the right summary.
3) Smart defaults were pre-selected, reducing the work for users.
