Microsoft BlueHat Contest eligibility criteria and participation details

Microsoft is organizing a new contest for maintaining better environment for Windows operating system such that security threats are removed from computer system. It is Microsoft "BlueHat Contest" which invites applications from worldwide security experts. The total amount of prize awarded to security experts is $ 250,000 out of which $ 200,000 is grand prize and $ 50,000 is for runner up. It is a golden opportunity for security experts to put forth their opinion to maintain better security solutions for Microsoft and other computing devices.

Microsoft offers such a big amount for security experts so as to attract them to focus on major security problems. Microsoft wants that many security experts will come forward and think about various ways to reduce threats to computing devices. After seeing their profile page, I come to know that Microsoft is looking to collaborate with others building solutions to tough their industrial problems. It is believed that BlueHat prize, encourage world talented researchers and academics to tackle major security challenges of the computing world. It is Microsoft active Protections program which share information with security vendors around the world to make them aware with protection technologies. This program got success in maintaining similar effort for security research community.

How to participate in Microsoft BlueHat Contest?

Before going to register for Microsoft BlueHat Contest, you must not to be a government employee because government employees are not eligible to participate in this contest. This Contest base is to design a run-time mitigation technology solution which is capable of preventing exploitation of memory safety vulnerabilities. Every effort to protect Windows application from security threats will be consider valid entry for this Contest.

This Contest starts from August 3, 2011 and will going to end on April 1, 2012. You must be professional in field of software security and must have age of 14 years or more than it. If you belong to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria then you are not allowed to participate in contest because US implemented export regulations to these countries.

Make sure that Microsoft Corporation employee and their relatives are not allowed to participate. Moreover, any individual involved in administration of Contest is also not allowed.

Once you have fulfilled required criteria then you must submit a compressed ZIP file must be lower than 2 MB in space. It should have one executable file that demonstrates your solution. Your prototype must be fully functioning and work on Windows platform. The memory consumption cost must be lesser than 5 percent. Moreover, your prototype must have high compatibility with third party resources.

Technical description of the Prototype must include your full name and description being fully solved that addresses the problem. Your description cannot exceed 10 pages and must be in .doc, .docx, .xps, .pdf or plain text file and technical description must be submitted in the English language.

Content which you have submitted must be your original work and you must have its patents and licenses to submit your entry. It will not belong to any third party license or so. All you have to do is to send an email to bluehatprize@microsoft.com with your description and prototype outlined above.
