In this article, I discussed about shut-down of Google Labs. Google Labs is one of the product from Google, where Google encouraged its employees to release early stage models. Google encourages its employees to use of twenty percent of a work week for innovation.
As a part of prioritizing their product efforts, Google axed Google labs. In Google labs, Google encouraged their employee's to release early proto-types, later these experimental features were became Apps in Android market.
Yesterday, Google announced in a blog post that they will discontinue its Google Labs efforts. Bill Coughran, A senior vice president for Research and Systems Infrastructure in Google, said that
"we learned a lot by launching very early prototypes in the Labs"
. He also said that
"greater focus is crucial if we were to make the most of the extraordinary opportunities ahead."
As per the Coughran's post, some of the projects which were running under Google labs will close immediately and some other products which were successful under Google labs will be directed into other Google product areas. Many Google Labs products which were available as Apps through the Android Market will continue to be offered there.
Bill Coughran added in his blog post that
"We will continue to push speed and innovation - the driving forces behind Google Labs - across all our products, as the early launch of the Google+ field trial last month showed"
.
Google recently stopped some of its projects which were not gaining attraction from people. Last month they stopped,
Google Health
, a personal health records service, and also
Google PowerMeter
, which manages web based home energy use.
Google wants to focus on big projects which gains huge attraction from people. They don't want to start small projects to close with in few months of time.
