Text to Speech programs allow you to type some text and read it loud. In this article, I will talk how to use text to speech in Windows 7.
Did you ever wanted to create some voice file using some specific text? This morning I was trying to create a voice file with a welcome message to one of my websites. My first choice was to speak the text myself and record it using the "Sound Recorder" available in Windows 8. However, I quickly changed my mind after I tried to listen to my own boring voice!
Built-in Text to Speech tool in Windows 7
There is an option in Windows 7 to type a text and speak it. In this tool, you can type any text and make Windows 7 read it for you. I could not find many options to change the voice. The only voice I could select was "Microsoft Anna".
How to use Text to Speech option in Windows 7?
Go to start menu and type "text to speech".
This will show you the program "Change text to
speech settings". Open this program.
In this voice selection drop down list, you can see "Microsoft Anna"
In the textbox for the preview voice, you can type any text you want to speak.
Click on the "Preview Voice" button
You can adjust the speed of voice using the slider below it.
Unfortunately, this option does not give you any way to save the voice file. The work around is, open the "Sound Recorder" and record the voice when the typed voice is previewed.
To open the sound recorder integrated with Windows 7, go to start menu and type "sound recorder". It will show you the sound recorder program.
