When autorun.inf virus enters a system, it attacks on the hard disk drive and system prohibits further access to hard disk drive such that you are not able to open hard disk drive. The autorun.inf virus creates multiple copies of virus file in each root directory. Below are the steps to remove autorun.inf file from system so as to open the hard disk drive easily.

Sometimes, you got struck in Windows operating system due to the entry of the infected code in hard disk drive. When any infected file with the name of autorun.inf enters in the computer system then it will not allow Windows users to access the hard disk drive by double clicking on the hard disk icon. When you click on the hard disk drive icon then you are not able to open drives on your hard disk. The infected code has blocked and restricted the further access to any of disk drives. You can easily troubleshoot this problem by following the steps given below-

When infected code enters in system then the code creates an autorun.inf file in the root directory of each drive and restricts it to open because it is read only, hidden and system file which is accessed each time user calls it. This file also disables folder option so to protect itself from getting removed from system. Here are the steps to open hard disk drive easily by removing autorun.inf file-

First, click on the start button--> run-->type cmd and press enter. This command will redirect you to command prompt window. Within Command prompt type "cd\" in command prompt to remove the existing disk drive path from prompt.

Type "attrib –r –h –s authorun.inf" to remove read only, hidden and system accessing permission rights from system and then type "del authorun.inf" to remove autorun.inf from existing drive path.

Once you have removed the autorun.inf from existing disk drive then you have to change the drive path by typing the drive name followed by ":". For example- You want to remove file from D disk drive then type d: in command prompt and repeat above same steps again. Likewise repeat the same steps for each drive. Finally restart your system to apply changes permanently.
