The resource consists history of windows operating system. Starting from its first release to the latest windows 8, how the journey of windows will be there in this resource, the features of windows in every release will be mentioned. Some popular releases of Windows are mentioned in this article.


The History of Microsoft begins in the year 1983 by developing an Graphical User Interface for their own Operating System MS-DOS.

The very first version of Windows, version 1.0, released on 20 November 1985.It achieved little popularity. It was originally going to be called "Interface Manager" but the head of marketing at Microsoft, convinced the company that the name Windows would be more appealing to consumers.Thus the Name Windows Came.The first version of Windows consists of some Graphical user interface programmes like Paint,WordProcessor,Calender,Notepad,Controlpanel and a game called Reversi

The second version of Microsoft Windows,was released in the year 1987 with advanced than the previous version,and it contains Excel and Word.After this several version's of Windows have been released with some significant changes than the older one's.
In the year 1998 a new version called Windows 98 has been released,which has new hardware drivers and better support for the file system which allows support for disk partitions.The Usb support in Windows 98 is far superior than the older versions. It also integrated with the Internet Explorer browser into the Windows GUI and Windows Explorer file manager.This version of Windows is very popular than the older one's and this made Microsoft as a king of Operating system.

After Releasing Windows 98,Microsoft started showing interest in Servers.A New version named windows 2000 has been released.A lot of advancement made from the previous versions with improved Media player,Device manager,Direct x and a new kernel.Six Different versions of Windows 2000 are released,but two of its versions became popular,they are Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 server.After the release of Windows 2000,windows again launched a new version of windows os,called Windows Millenium.

In 2001, Microsoft released Windows XP. The merging of the Windows NT/2000 and Windows 95/98/Me lines was finally achieved with Windows XP.The initial release of Windows XP,met with considerable criticism, particularly in the area of security, leading to the release of three major Service Packs. Windows XP SP1 was released in September 2002, SP2 came out in August 2004 and SP3 came out in April 2008.Windows XP lasted longer as Microsoft's flagship operating system than any other version of Windows, from 2001 to January 30, 2007.After that Windows released an another operating system called Windows Vista.

The Recent version of windows is Windows Sseven,which has significant changes than the old ones.Some features of Windows seven are faster booting, Device Stage, Windows PowerShell, less obtrusive User Account Control, multi-touch, and improved window management.Features included with Windows Vista and not in Windows 7 include the sidebar (although gadgets remain) and several programs that were removed in favor of downloading their Windows Live counterparts.Windows seven ships in seven different versions.

In 2011,Microsoft announced that they are developing a new OS Called Windows 8, which would be including support for system-on-a-chip (SoC) and mobile ARM processors.
