Advantage of using fake icon on your system
Many users are making use of the fake icon feature in the windows XP and Windows 7, as it will prevent access to certain files from various areas which are specified by you such that you can prevent your system file accessing temporarily . For example- In case you are not at home and some child is using your system and he/she in your absence made changes within your system files. So, I am providing some steps that will help you to create fake icons on your desktop such that some unknown user will not access your data because icon will looks similar as your original file icon but consist of some other file. This is basically carried out in case of internet explorer or Mozilla Firefox icons because it prevents access to the internet and keeps your internet data usage under control.
How to create fake icon in your system?
 * Firstly, go the Desktop because fake icons are created only on Desktop and then right click on the Desktop which will open short window and from there select new option and then click on the shortcut option.
* After that a new shortcut icon windows will appear and then locate the path of the file of which fake icon you wants to create and name it according to your requirement, let us consider the example of internet explorer according to which any file path is selected and then click on next button and finally rename the shortcut file as “Internet explorer” and click on finish button.
Once you have click on the finish button then within micro seconds, you will get a new shortcut file with the name of internet explorer on the Desktop and now paste that shortcut in as many areas as you want, now the main step is required according to which we can change the icon of the shortcut file by right clicking on the icon then click on the properties option and after that click on the change icon option that will display you with the list of icons and from that list choose the internet explorer icon and then click on the apply button and then OK.
* You can easily see the changes applied on the icon file on the desktop which will looks same as that internet explorer but actually it is the fake icon file that will display you with data of the file which you have browse during the initial phase of locating that file.

even you can change icon for My computer and recycle bin and more desktop icon. try it.
In windows 7 right click on desktop personalize and choose desktop icons and click related icon and change the icon for it.

Hi,
One more option their to change an icon of start menu. It is one software which should be create in administrator. From their you can change the icon by any name.

What ever you all said is a bit time taking. What I will tell is applicable to both desktop and any other folder.
We have a button on our keyboard named "Prt Scr/SysRq". Clicking this button takes a snap of the whole screen.
Now firstly put the icon on the desktop. Then remove your cursor to the extreme right or downward so that it disappears.
Now press the "Prt Scr/SysRq" Button on your keyboard. After this just open paint program and click on paste option under the edit tab. The whole snap is pasted there, just save it and use the photo as background on your desktop or in any of your folder. A cool way to fool people! I have attached a snap of my desktop, though I have reduced its resolution for faster upload, but actually you will get high resolution snaps....enjoy!
