The translating of the domain name system into the well settled numbers which is used for easy understanding of website names and is defined by the standards of the Microsoft Domain name system under the distributed networks with some more functionality too. Therefore, In this article, I am going to explain you what are the functions performed by the Domain Name server under the Internet protocol suite?

As you can easily see that any website address consist of the domain name system which is translated to the to the address which is easy for the computer to understand because the data with in the domain server consist of the numerical values that can be accessed after converting the website name into numerical number. For example- suppose the website with the domain name of www.generallife.com translates the address to the 240.7.23.10.

The Domain name system consist of the technical functionality with in the database service that can be used for the DNS protocol defining and redirecting the detailed information about the data structures and communication exchange servers use with in the DNS as the part of the Internet Protocols suite which consist of the set of communication protocols for the internet and similar networks and commonly known as TCP/IP (Transmission control protocols/Internet Protocols) under which we define two networking protocols for the internet and other for the local area network for the world wide web which consist of the abstraction layers such as link layer, Internet layer, Transport layer and Application layer which defines the operational scope of protocols whose functionality vary from layers to layers and is explained below as follows-

Application layer


Functionality of the Microsoft Domain name serverThe Application layer which we are using in categorizing of the protocols and methods are often used in the architectural models of computer networking and used with the integration of the OSI model and the Internet Protocols Suite that define the application layers and this application layer itself consist of the set of protocols and methods that process the communication activities with respect to the internet protocols networking using the transport layer protocols that establish the host to host connections for the users by defining the scope of the application layer at additional levels with session layer and presentation layer which defines the separation of the functionality at these layers and provide different protocols implementation for the each layer with the common semantic conversion between the associated application processes which include the virtual file, virtual terminal, job transfer and manipulation protocols for the implementation of the data.

The protocols which is used in the applications layers is given as-
BGP,DHCP,DNS,FTP,HTTP,IMAP,IRC,LDAP,MGCP,XMPP,NNTP,NTP,POP,RIP,RPC,RTP,SIP,SMTP,SNMP,SSH,Telnet and TLS/SSL.

Transport layer


Functionality of the Microsoft Domain name serverThe transport layer is used in the computer networking to provides the end to end communication service for the running of the applications with the layered architecture of the network components and protocols that will used to provides the convenient services such as connection oriented data stream support for the files that includes the operations such as reliability, flow control and multiplexing with both TCP/IP model which set up the foundation of the Internet and Open Systems Interconnection model for the networking of the convenient application programming interface to the internet hosts that defines the well-known transport layer with the title of the connection oriented transmissions where the connection less user data grams protocols is used for the simpler messaging transmissions with the complex protocol design for the reliable transmission and data stream services with the group of the datagram congestion protocols and stream control transfer protocols.

The protocols that worked easily with the transport layers are given below-
TCP, UDP, DCCP, SCTP, RSVP and ECN.

Internet Layer


Functionality of the Microsoft Domain name serverThe Internet protocol later is the group of the internetworking methods with I the TCP/IP protocol suite which sets up the foundation of the Internet and must be referred with the group of the methods, protocols and specifications which is sued for the transport of the data packets from the original host to the other boundaries of the network by sending it to the destination host by specifying the network addresses or IP address which is defined by the Internet Protocol suite for the functioning of the Internetworking which is the concept of connecting the multiple networks with each other using the secure gateway that uses the data packets which is based on the IP address by defining the local network nodes for the maintenance of the local nodes such as local networking topology that uses the protocols which is based on the framing of the packets that are specific to the link types and known as the link layer because of the conservative of the internet service of the host to many users.

The protocols that worked easily with the Internet layers are given below-
IP (IPv4, IPv6), ICMP, ICMPv6, IGMP, IPsec.

Link layer


Functionality of the Microsoft Domain name serverThe link layer also used in the computer networks and it is lowest layer in the Internet protocol suite which also defines the architecture of the networking applications by using the means of the platform that is provided by the Internet which consist of the group of the protocols that operated on the host of the link layer which maintains the physical and logical network component for the interconnection of the hosts or nodes in the network and a link protocol which is the suite of the methods and standards that operate only between the adjacent networks on the local areas network segment and wide area network for the inter-connection of networks with different semantics which is combination of the data link layer and physical layer which provides the descriptions for the operating scopes under the network topology using the protocols such as Ethernet and IEEE 802 for the framing of protocols that includes the point-to –point Protocols that belong to the link layer itself. The basic connectivity functions which is required for the interconnection is provided by the hardware and other associated management interface

The protocols that worked easily with the Link layers are given below-
ARP/InARP, NDP, OSPF, Tunnels (L2TP), PPP, Media Access Control (Ethernet, DSL, ISDN, FDDI)
