Microsoft Lync 2010 is an instant messaging client. In the Mac Operating System Platform, Microsoft Lync is known as Microsoft Communicator and in the Microsoft Windows Platform, the same is known as Microsoft Office Communicator. Microsoft Lync client is used with Microsoft Lync Server. In Microsoft Exchange Messaging Server, the Windows Messenger was used previously. Now the Microsoft Lync has replaced the Windows Messenger in the Exchange Messaging Server. Microsoft Lync has more features that are expanded to target the enterprise / corporate environment, when compared with Windows Live Messenger / MSN Messenger.
