In this article, let me share the detail about a small but good program to lock your computer using your USB Drive. Let us see how?
How to use your USB Drive as Key for your Computer?
If your workplace is the most crowded one and you are afraid that someone from the crowd may use your computer in your absence, then this article is for you. How to lock your computer when you leave your place? How to keep your computer safe without logging off? The answer to all these questions is a program viz., Predator. You can install this program in an
USB Drive
and use the USB Drive as key to your computer. Let us see how to do this.
First of all, please download the Predator Zip File from the following location:
http://www.montpellier-informatique.com/predator/en/index.php?n=Main.DownloadFree
Then unzip the downloaded zip file. Install the executable file in to the C Drive of your Computer. You need not install it in your USB Drive now. Now open the Predator file in your computer. During the execution, your computer will ask you to insert USB Drive in the USB Port of your computer. Then it will ask for a password. That's all, everything is done.
When you start
Windows
in your computer, please keep the USB Drive insert in the USB Port of your computer. After Windows startup, please execute the Predator program. Then whenever you want to lock your computer, it is enough that you remove the USB Drive from the USB Port of your computer. Soon after you remove the USB Drive from the USB Port, the Keyboard and Mouse of your computer will be locked and the screen will turn in to black color. For reviving these operations, it is enough that you insert your USB Drive in the USB Port of your computer.
You may also know that there is a provision in Windows that when you press Windows key and 'L' key together, your computer will be locked. You have to type a password to revive your computer in this method. If others know that password, it will be a headache for you. But the program "Predator" just acts as a key to your computer thereby allowing you to use USB Drive in your computer for locking as you do at your home.
