World's fastest Super Computer developed by China
China has finally over taken USA in the field of computing. The World's fastest Super Computer was Cray XT5 located in USA till now was able to perform 1.75 pataflops of data at a time ( 1.75 trillion operations per second).
The new Super Computer of China, Tianhe-1A has now over taken the speed of Cray XT5 and this new super computer from China can perform 2.507 petaflops of data which is equal to 2.507 trillion calculations per second. So Tianhe-1A is 40% more faster compared to Cray XT05 super computer.
Tianhe-1A is named after a milky way. Tianhe-1A was developed by Chinese National University of Defense Technology and it was revealed to the general public in October,2009 and it was ranked as World's fifth fastest super computer at that time. Today it is the World's fastest Super Computer. The speed of Tianhe-1A in the beginning was 563 teraflops and today it can perform 2.507 petaflops per second.
What is there in World's fastest Super computer
Tianhe-1A Super Computer is running on Linux Operating System. The Super Computer is equipped with 14,336 Xeon X5670 processors and 7,168 Nvidia Tesla M2050 GPUs (General Purpose CPUs). 2,048 NUDT FT1000 heterogeneous processors are also installed in this Super Computer. The total power consumption of Tianhe-1A Super Computer is around 4.04 Mega Watts. The total area covered by this Super Computer is more than one third of an acre (17,000 Square Feet). The size of this Super Computer is more than 100 fridge-sized computer racks and together they weigh more than 155 tonnes.
Research is going on to build super computers which are much faster than Tianhe-1A in USA and Japan. Already five new super computes are being built by USA and Japan which are four times faster than Tianhe-1A.
