In this article, I will explain to you, what are the storage mediums that are there in the computer system and how we stores data in the computer system?
The data storage device are used in the electronic machines or devices for storing the information using the principle of recording that makes use of the digital form of the data which consist of the zero and one format of data that can be virtually stores in memory of the storage device in form of electromagnetic waves.
* The storage devices that make use of the modulating recording of the data are
magnetic tape and optical discs
that process the information through the help of recording which is either permanent or temporary and depend on the medium in which it is stored by the user.
* It makes use of the electrical power to store or retrieve the data and data storage is either continuous or discrete that are further categorized as analog and digital signal format and can be stored in the semi conductor device because it is negative coefficient of resistance as its resistance and have so much data storage capability.
* The data storage that is used in the computer are consist of both volatile and non volatile memory that works with certain principle as volatile memory stores the data only if power is provided to it otherwise lost the data and no backup of the computer memory takes place whereas in case of non volatile memory, the data is stored in the memory permanently as it is not depend on the power supply.
* The component that acts as the interface between the input devices and storage medium is
CPU
that is central processing unit which controls all the operations of the data storage and the data is stored in the primary medium and in the secondary medium.
* The
RAM
stands for Random Access Memory that stores the data temporary and known as volatile memory and further categorized as DRAM( dynamic RAM) or Static RAM but dynamic RAM is too fast in comparison with static RAM and for permanent storage of data, hard disk and optical disk are used which can have capacity of storing the bundles of data which is more than that of RAM as it stores the data in
Giga bytes
(GB).
* The storage memories are of different sizes and shapes that too depend on the architecture of the computer system and different types of secondary storage devices are
Floppy disk drive, CD ROM and DVD ROM
and sometimes, the
USB data card
may also be used for the fast data storage.
* Earlier in the past we have a lot of expensive data storage devices and a lot of data crashing and corruption problem is there but now with the increased advancement and technology in computer and electronics field, a new storage devices are introduced in the market which has their capabilities in Tega bytes and the storage can be in form of
charts, videos, audio, music files etc.
* The computer system can only understands the binary language, therefore the storage of the data are also in binary format that consist of the zero and one and for that purpose we have special unit of devices that is encoders and decoders which will perform the operations of the conversion of decimal data in binary format.
* It is because of the storage devices that we are performing our operations in a faster manner because for the processing of any operation we require the medium that is provided by the storage devices because they provide space to the data which is entered through input devices.
