What is meant by Certificate of Authenticity or COA?

A Certificate of Authenticity or COA is a label, which helps a customer to identify the genuine Microsoft software. The Certificate of Authenticity or COA includes features on advanced piracy prevention to help the customer verify the authenticity of the software he is acquiring. A Certificate of Authenticity or COA may also contain barcode, which is used for Microsoft software product tracking purposes all along the globe. The background of the Proof of License label contains the following words: "MICROSOFT PROOF OF LICENSE" in a microprint.
