What is new in Microsoft Sync Framework 2.1

Synchronization is a way to keep the same copy of data in multiple locations and it will automatically update at all the places for any changes. Sync framework is a platform for the applications, Services and devices. Sync Framework is a combination of utilities that supports roaming, data sharing, synchronizing offline data and many more. Using this Framework API (Application Program Interface) developer can build a system that access offline data, synchronize

Sync Framework Technologies

Sync Framework includesSync Framework core components which is used to store the data in data store, Metadata Storage Service is used to keep metadata in a data store, Sync service for ADO.Net can be used by the developer for make applications, Sync Service for File System is to Synchronize folders and files, Sync Service for FeedSync is to synchronize RSS.

New in Sync Framework 2.1

The new Framework includes new features to improve the productivity, enhancements. Some of the bugs and other drawback that are faced in the previous framework are now fixed in Sync Framework 2.1. New features include SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 Compatibility, SQL Server with a SQL Azure database and SQL Azure synchronization.

Using SQL Azure Synchronization we can keep the data in web by using Windows Azure and SQL Azure Database. Azure Synchronization will be helpful for the organization to share the information with other customer using Azure synchronization instead of giving permissions to the local data store. Data can be viewed in your local data base without any network connection if you synchronized the SQL Azure database with local data store.

Change at both Local and SQL Azure Data store will get reflected automatically in both the places. SQL Azure features include performance improvements, setting transaction to the maximum and some other features.

Two-tier architecture is supported in Sync Framework 2.1 by using Internet Information Services (IIS) as a middle tier and N-tier architecture is supported by using proxy provider to connect the SQL Azure database.

Bulk Application of changes is way to update the data in SQL Azure database which can be achieved by using SQL Server 2008 database with Bulk insert, update and delete features will improve the Synchronization performance. It will reduce the number of transaction between the SQL Azure and local database modifications. Bulk update stored procedures are created in SQL Server 2008 by default. Table-value parameter is supported in SQL Server 2008 will help us to do the bulk data modifications in SQL Azure Database.

Parameter-based Filtering will pass the parameter based on the fields and it can be defined by creating templates. Parameter-based filtering can be done by using scope templates and the defined templates will be used to filter those values. Database administrator will define the filter template and maintaining the templates. Template is required to create the stored procedure. Maintaining the parameters in the template file is easier and every one will follow the template in order to create stored procedure.

Removing Scopes and Templates is to remove the synchronized elements from the database. Removing the scopes, metadata, filter templates, triggers and stored procedures can be easy by using defined classes which is present in local database.
SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 Compatibility can be automatically upgraded once the database is connected with sync framework. Using its API we can enable or disable tracking on a table.
